Headphone connection
My husband needs to use headphones to hear the tv but I have been unable to connect a set via bluetooth. I can connect to the Samsung tv but as soon as I switch to Directtv I lose the connection. I called the tech support at Direct and was told that neither speakers nor headphones can connect. So what is the answer to using headphones? There is no optical output on the tv which is what I am using on another tv in the house for headphones.

Ludwick577. Thanks for all of your help. I think I finally figured it out, There's a setting on the tv that lets me connect multiple audio devices so I Bluetoothed in a headset and it let me also hear the tv (for me) over the air. I have to go to the TV every time we turn it on and then go to DirecTV to watch recordings and use some of the other features. The only kicker is that I have to go through the steps on the tv connection every time I turn off the tv. Not so hard for me, but my 82 year old husband isn't too "techie!" Thanks for your help.

Hi there, we understand it's essential for your husband to use headphones to enjoy watching DIRECTV, and we're here to help. Do you watch using the DIRECTV app, or is there a Gemini device connected to your TV? Christian, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Thanks for letting us know. Customers with a headset can program their device with Gemini (unavailable on Gemini Air). To pair, go to Settings > System > Remote & Devices, arrow down to New Devices Found and highlight the device to be paired and press OK to select. If not found, try moving closer and make sure the device is in pairing mode. If pairing fails after three attempts, the device may not be compatible at this time. Thank you for choosing DIRECTV. Is Gemini device the same as a dongle device? I have a dongle device that I think is the Gemini device. Further question, however. If I move the Gemini device to another tv, I can use the DirectTV app to watch what is currently playing but I don't know how to access the DirecTV menu to see the guide, library and other options. How do I get to the menu using the app? I am able to connect to the Samsung TV with Bluetooth and think I could connect the headphones if I knew how to access the DTV app menu.

The dongle device you have is called the Gemini Air which sadly doesn't have the feature to connect a headset via bluetooth. Christy, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Accessing the Home page on your DIRECTV App may vary on the device you're using. Can you share with me what device you're using with DIRECTV App? Rhyan, DIRECTV Community Specialist

I think I might need to reprogram the Samsung remote so the DirecTV menu that I had been using is gone. Don’t know! Getting frustrated.

Thanks for sharing. Can you try to press the 'Down' button on your Samsung remote? Let me know if it works.

I can't do it right now. Have to move the Gemini to a different tv. Thanks. I'll be back.

I think I need a different DirecTV device. One that has an optical output. Is there such a thing? And does DirecTV provide it? I DID access the the DTV menu by arrowing down but still couldn't connect to Bluetooth. Surely there are other hearing impaired people who subscribe to DirecTV.
