Home location not connected
I use the Android receiver box from Directv Stream.
Randomly, the home location will change in the location settings menu without warning.
We don’t actively change the home location, and yet it “disconnects “.
Since you only get 4 chances a year to change your home location, this creates a problem if it’s doing this to us every couple of weeks.
We rarely stream outside the home network. When we do, it’s with at most one device.
What is deciding if you’re at your home location and why would it disconnect? I presume this is tied somehow to incoming IP address? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Your home location is based on your billing zip code. Local availability of channels is based on your IP address. Sounds like your ISP provider is randomly switching IP ports on you. Might want to ask your ISP.

My ISP in this case is Starlink. It works fantastically with Directv Stream, other than having the system think I am away from my home location.
I am wondering what I can do with this other than getting rid of Starlink or going back to Directv Satellite service?
Neither is a good choice.

Can you ask starlink for a static ip address?

You cannot get a static IP on Starlink.

I have some questions only for those who have Starlink and the DirecTV Stream box. I am asking because I "should" be getting Starlink in a few months and stumbled onto this thread and a couple of others. Note: I have two boxes. One that will be changing to Starlink and the other is on an AT&T line.
1. I saw it noted in the OP about the 4 home location changes a year. Has this actually happened to anyone with Starlink, and what happened (including any work around)?
2. On both of my boxes, I have the location under settings-general set to off. Does that have any bearing on the Starlink issue noted?
3. On the box that is in another location (set up second) under Home location it says not connected, but works fine. I'm not about to click the "set new location" (yet).
4. If need be, I can set the home location on the second box because that one should not have an issue with the IP changing. So assuming the one that will be connected to Starlink then changes to not connected, won't it keep on working as long as I don't actually set a new home location?
5. What do RVers do, or don't they use the box?

As a RV'er I use my cell service as a hot spot (Verizon) along with any free WiFi that I can find. Presently I have not had any difficulties satisfying my viewing needs.

Is that with the stream box? Because that seems to be the device that people are saying may be an issue.

Oh no. The stream box was designed to be a home unit not intended for traveling. Roku's and Fire Sticks in gerenral for out of the home viewing. Plus the fact that Roku's and Fire Sticks do not have GPS or location services so the out of home issue is not a concern.

That is why I specifically was asking about the stream box. But I figured they may have been some RVrs that got one figuring it would work fine. I do not recall seeing anything on the website that said "for home use only".

No they don't. Just the nature of the box reveals a home device. The box is the only device that has a home setting and actually uses it. The size and setup of the box does not lead towards RV traveling. Even if he documentation of traveling use reference Streaming devices being Roku or Fire Sticks and mobile devices on the road.

The reason I went with the stream box is that it offered the closest thing to a Directv satellite receiver experience. I wanted a “real” remote and something that felt like a normal tv experience. The Roku , Firestick, AppleTV, mobile device apps all work fine , but there are definitely trade offs that I’d rather not deal with if I didn’t have to. I contacted Directv Stream again about the issues with my home location disconnecting. They assured me they were working on it and would have a fix. They had another manager call me after I got off with the normal CSA and also apologized and said they will get it taken care of. That was a couple of weeks ago and nothing has changed. All I want is what they advertise their service to be. I’m not trying to get around the system. I just want to use more than two TV s at the same time on my home network.

...and you should be able to. It's all about DirecTV Stream and it's previous owners using IP address and billing zip code to determine home location for defining locals and regional sports programming.
