What streaming device are you using?

Perhaps that broadcast isn't providing CC info?

Do other channels have CC text?

television.  It never had captioning and espnu never has captioning. yes, other channels do have captioning except Heroes and Icons.  It has never captioned on my Vizio television.

What streaming device are you using?

Note that there's a difference between enabling captions on your TV's settings vs. the caption setting on your streaming device.

Here are the steps to use closed captions on your DIRECTV STREAM box:

 

1. Press Home on the DIRECTV STREAM remote.

2. Go to Settings and then Preferences.

3. Choose Accessibility.

4. Select Captioning and then Display to turn on or off.

Tip: Use voice commands on your DIRECTV STREAM remote to turn captioning on or off. Just press the MIC button and say “Turn on captioning” or “Turn off captioning”.

Tks but I have done your suggestion countless times over the months to no avail. Most channels are captioned--it is just several of the Espn channels and channel 385 Heroes and Icons that are not.  I have contacted AT&T and the Heroes network and no one will correct the problem.  Again, I do not know if it is just me having the problem, but I assume it is because I do not think the networks would allow the problem to exist for the general closed captioned audience.
