non smart tv
I just started Directv Stream service. I have two smart tvs connected and they are working fine. I have a third, non-smart tv. When I ordered the service I got streaming boxes for all three tvs. If I get a Roku or Fire Stick for the non smart tv, will I still need the Directv box or will I find the Stream app on the Roku and be able simply to access it? If so can I return that third box and get a refund?

You won't need the DirecTV Stream box. Roku, FireStick, Apple TV, etc. can all download the DirecTV Stream App. I don't think you can return that box for a refund, though. But if you contact DirecTV to deactivate it, you might find someone willing to buy it.

When I spoke with the representative when I was signing up with Directv, I was given the impression I would need the box for my one non smart tv. When I got the message from ATT to send back my UVerse equipment, I began checking other things and, with research here, found out I didn't need that box. I never opened it. If I send it back it may be a few days over the 14 day period. If I'm not reimbursed, it will be, well, a kind of theft on ATT's part, and will leave a really bad taste in my mouth.

@8moop AT&T has nothing to do with the service now. DirecTV is a separate company from AT&T.

Okay, here's the situation. I returned the Directv box via UPS at 9:30am EDT. I have a receipt. I bought a Roku stick and installed it on my non smart tv. It works fine, and I am able to access Directv Stream. My only question is whether or not I will be charged for that box even though I have returned it. As I said, the early advice I got from the help line indicated I needed the box, which is why I asked for it and had not returned it yet. I honestly don't know when I received it or whether it was more than 2 weeks. It could not be more than a few.

You returned your DirecTV Stream box via UPS without authorization from DirecTV? Did you provide UPS with your account information? Did you get a shipping receipt?
If you returned the box without prior authorization it's doubtful that you'll get credited for the refund. Hope I'm wrong.
