Are you using a Samsung TV? You need a device/app for each tv. If your tv has the app in it's app store, you don't need a device. Samsung Dtv Stream app is crap though you would be better off using a firestick, roku, apple tv, or you can get a refurbished Dtv Stream box (Gemini) from Dtv for 49.99 with 1 yr warranty.
As was stated, if you have the app already on your Smart TV, then you don't need a device. Just be aware that those apps are very inferior compared to using an external streaming device.
