Should I plug my ethernet cable in to my cable box or tv?

I have an ethernet port in the wall.  Should I plug my Directv in to that ethernet port or should I plug the tv in to the ethernet port?  Or both (I have a splitter)?

Hi, TexHogFan1971. If your service is DIRECTV STREAM, you can connect the Gemini Device to your wall through an ethernet cable. Visit https://www.directv.com/support/article/000091381 for more info. John, DIRECTV Community Specialist

You can't use a "splitter" to share one ethernet connect to two devices. You need an Ethernet Switch.  If you want your TV to have internet access, and don't want to use its WiFi connection, then you could use a switch to feed both the TV and the DirecTV Stream box.

If it has multiple ethernet output ports, then yes.

It won't be applicable if it's a splitter for coaxial cable since it's only designed for DIRECTV via Satellite cable boxes. If referring to an ethernet switch splitter, you can plug in your TV and Gemini Device, especially if you're changing inputs to use your TV's app. John, DIRECTV Community Specialist

I do have DIRECTV STEAM and I currently have it connected to my Gemini Device; however, I didnt know if it was better or even worthwhile to connect the ethernet to my TV as well with a splitter?

Is the AT&T GS1005 a switch?

I am not even sure if it matters if I plug an ethernet cord in to my TV and in to my DIRECTV STREAM box but I have this AT&T GS1005 switch; however, it has 5 ports in the back...which one takes the main ethernet cord from the wall and which ones go from the switch to the TV and DIRECTV box?  They all look the same too me (5 ports, all yellow)

It doesn't matter. Typically I just connect the "incoming" ethernet cord to Port 1.
