Stream vs internet
I thought I had done enough research to determine that DirecTV stream was the service I wanted. Now they throw in DIRECTV internet with ARS at an additional cost of $15. Now I’m back to square one.
Confused!!

Recently, DirecTV has unified the branding around DirecTV and DirecTV Stream. Now, DirecTV promotes DirecTV via satellite and DirecTV via internet as the two main ways to get DirecTV. You can still get DirecTV Stream if you want to use your own device, but DirecTV is heavily promoting its own streaming player over bringing your own device. This rebranding has confused a lot of current and future subscribers.

Directv does not provide internet, and ARS has nothing to do with internet either. It's a service fee for DVR, whole home and HD.

Yes it has. Just like Texasbritt. When the agent started telling me about DIRECTV via internet. I thought he was talking about internet service. I must admit it almost was a shouting match before I understood. I just completed a long chat session and have decided I will go with DIRECTV via internet with ARS. At least there won’t be a contract. I was also assured my 24mbps would work. We will see. I plan to make it happen Monday so I can take advantage of the free trial period. Thanks to everyone in your effort to educate me.

@Hooks55 The rule of thumb for streaming Directv is to have at least 10Mbps per streaming device so that you do not get buffering, and to make sure that you have really good wifi signal strength so that you do not have buffering while watching. Hope this helps.

@TexasBrit I would certainly agree that the ARS fee should only apply to satellite, but DTV apparently doesn't. From the "Via Internet" fee schedule, re: ARS fee:
So it seems you are paying for search (which you got for free previously, albeit limited to just the DTVS app - unclear if this will actually include other apps beyond anything Google chooses to do on their own), keeping track of the last channel (which again it always did, and without profiles will not be very exciting), buy PPV (it seems odd to me that you need to pay just for the opportunity to pay to view), access to third-party apps (which any commodity streamer - including theirs up til now - offers), feature upgrades (which you would think they need to do just to keep up with the competition anyway), and customer service (which you would think would be part of your subscription fee, and which - unless it markedly improves - isn't really worth anything).
So it seems the $15/month is paying for things you either got for free before and/or would still get for free on any other device or from any other service. I can't see this ending well for them.
