ESPN Unlimited Finger Pointing
Nutshell: I paid for ESPN Select for a few years just to get Plus. In November, DirecTV offered FREE ESPN Unlimited to me. I took it, activated it, and it worked. I then cancelled my private subscription to ESPN Select.
Fast forward to January 14, 2026. In a totally unrelated incident, I contacted DirecTV about an issue with one of my receivers being obsolete and slow. After a long discussion (they won't replace it), they gave me a credit for one year of X dollars, which I accepted.
At that point, though I didn't connect the dots to that date until later, my ESPN Unlimited became unavailable. I could/can still stream any ESPN that I have DirecTV access too (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC), but NOT ESPN Plus nor SECN+ which I use.
I have made (literally) nine calls to DirecTV and escalated as far up the chain as they'll let me. I have a ticket but no resolution. I have made multiple calls to ESPN, who are more helpful actually, and they cannot help. I have a Disney Plus logon, which works. I have a DirecTV logon, which works. I have a Disney Account Number listed in my DirecTV online account, apparently not helpful.
In summary:
-ESPN says that my service was cancelled by a 3rd party (DirecTV) on Jan 14 and there is no 'button' nor any process that they have in order to reactivate it, and the issue has to be with DirecTV
-DirecTV says that my service remains active and there is no process that they have to fix it since they show my Unlimited as 'Activated', and that the issue is with ESPN.
I have written letters to DirecTV and ESPN and copied the FCC, all to no avail. The only solution is for me to directly purchase ESPN Unlimited, which I have had to do at $30 a month.

I have a similar issue with my ESPN unlimited. I’ll have access for about 2weeks to a month, then I’ll loose access and subscription. It gets removed or cancelled and no one seems to know what happened or a permanent fix for the issue. I understand it’s only satellite customers having this issue.

sosnoskie, thanks. There appears to be NO answer to this.
The very MOST frustrating thing about this is that before this offer was ever made, I got SECN+ free simply because I had DirecTV and SECN Ch 611. Now that doesn't work anymore! If it did, I could buy the cheaper ESPN Select package to get Plus, but since now for yet another unknown reason SECN+ is not available, I have to buy the full Unlimited package to get what used to be free. That just (Edited per community guidelines).

Doing an AI search on Google, it says this issue is happening with satellite customers who make changes on their account, such as adding a receiver, a credit or promotion like a free channel. This automatically triggers the cancellation of a free ad on like ESPN Unlimited. Now if Google knows this, what all is DirecTV doing to prevent this from happening and why aren’t they telling this information to the customer?

Yes they should tell it to the customer. But they should at LEAST tell it to their Tech Staff, who are adamant that DirecTV is NOT at fault whatsoever.
And that is EXACTLY what happened. First, it was activated just fine. Second, it was apparently cancelled BECAUSE they gave me an unrelated credit. Then it magically reappeared after over 10 calls to both companies, each saying they could do nothing. Then I signed up for a FREE month of Paramount Plus, and BAM it went away again.
As an old I.T. guy I can assure you this is a glitch in the DirecTV systems and it shouldn't be that hard to figure out. At the very least, they COULD simply delete my account in 'back office' and then immediately reinstate it.....much like IPL'ing a computer.
