refund after cancelling directv
I cancelled directv on Jan. 21. There is refund due of $52.17. I have been following up numerous time via phone, chat and I keep getting promised (lied) that it's coming but so far I have not received it. I would like to know what's going on.

What is the refund for? Unreturned equipment or (assumed) pro-rated charges for a cancelled account?

Are you sure you are due a refund? Your final month of service is not prorated, you pay for the full month whether you use it or not. Presuming you really are due a refund, my understanding is it takes 6-8 weeks after your normal bill cycle ended, not the day you cancelled. In other words, it may still be coming. In any event, this forum is not customer support. No one here has access to your account.

Prorated charges for cancelled account. The online statement on directv also shows a credit in my account and confirms this.

Prorated charges, really? I presume you live in a state where state law requires they prorate, otherwise they no longer do and haven’t for over 2 years.

DirecTV DOES NOT pro-rate your final bill upon cancellation (it's in the Terms of Service) so I would be surprised if you ever actually get the money.

I checked my subsequent statement more carefully and it shows that a refund was issued on Mar. 1 so I guess you are correct in that it takes few weeks after my normal bill cycle ends.

@sandblaster Do you remember which states are the exception to the rule? I think California is one. Do you recall any others?
@lilychan Where do you live (state)?

Lucky you, @lilychan . As a resident of California, YOU are an exception to the rule.
ETA: You are correct @sandblaster . I did some Googling and the "no prorate" rule does NOT apply to California, Illinois & New York.
