Can't Choose Remote IR/RF - Remote No Longer Controls Vizio Speakers
DirecTV Remote: RC66RX.
DirecTV Receiver Model: HR44-500
Sound Bar: Vizio S3820w-C0
TV: Samsung Model UN55H6350AF
We had our DirecTV remote programmed for an external soundbar for years.
We have two remotes and both are failing in the same way, so it's not unique to the remote.
PROBLEM: The remote no longer controls the soundbar.
It used to control the soundbar from DirectTV mode (not AV1/2/TV).
Yes, new batteries are installed, cables are good, and software is current. I can control the speaker with the speaker remote, but not the Directv remote. Nothing has changed around the time this stopped working.
*The IR/RF choice is dimmed out and the prompt skips over it.
I do not know what it is set for, IR or RF?
But I cannot get into that setting.
I tried the magic mute-select > 933 > ch down but that didn't work.
If you can help us get the DirecTV remote to control the Vizio soundbar, I'd love it!
NOTE: In the past, I have notes saying that it worked with first auto setting under "I don't know model" for the Vizio soundbar.

just fyi. the remote you have won't control the HR44 in RF because the HR44 uses a different protocol. That's why you can't select RF. The remote is outputting IR.
Not that that solves your problem but it's one thing you don't have to be concerned about.
If both the remotes used to work but now don't then something must have changed.

Thank you TexasBrit. (btw - love the name).
Something is really odd because I rebooted/reset/reprogrammed everything, it worked yesterday and today, get this...
I can't power on or off the soundbar with the DirecTV remote but I can control the sound.
I used the DriecTV remote code 10060 to code for my Samsung TV. Their check was to increase/decrease the sound volume, not power on/off.
Do you think that the code is responsible and that there may be another code that would work?
Has anyone had that happen where you can control the sound but not power?
