Cant get directtv remote to control S431 TV

Remote control model number?

DVR/Receiver model number?

Receiver is Model H25-100  I don't know the remote model but it's the white universal one..The system was just installed a few days ago.

The install tech couldn't get it to work either and left

Well there are two white remotes so it is hard to assume the right model. It will be at the top left corner of the remote and starts with RC..

When you go to pair the remote with the TV on the H25, are you going to Menu, Settings & Help, Settings, Remote, Program TV, choosing ‘TCL’ as the brand, and testing the codes? Depending on the remote model, you may need to move the switch to TV MODE to properly pair it. Follow the instructions on-screen to ensure you perform it properly.

If you are using the smaller peanut-like remote, the receiver should theoretically program the remote with the TV by itself. In other words, you won’t need to mess around with a dozen codes until one works with the TV properly. 

I will confirm. It's the bigger white remote. Its at my parents assisted living home about 20 minutes away.

Under TCL their model isn't listed so tried select and Mute then tried 12434 I found on the site and the 11756 most folks use

The TCL is a Roku TV and its remote is RF but they used Comcast before Direct TV and never had any issues controlling the TV.

Strange issue

If you model of the TV doesn’t show up then you would choose “I don’t know the model” or “Model not listed.” From there, move the mode switch on the remote to TV MODE and follow the steps to program with the codes shown BY THE H25 onscreen. Online codes often don’t work. 

Thanks, I tried that and no luck :( I am starting to wonder if I have a bad remote? I am in IT and this " should " be simple.

Do these remotes have issues in the past? 

Plus I don't remember having any issues programing comcast 2 years ago.

No, the older remotes are very reliable. While you are there what is the remote number? Are you sure you are switching the mode to TV MODE and testing ALL of the TCL codes? If you don’t mind sending a picture of the receiver menus and remote just in case..

Wonder if this is a MDU system problem.
