Direct TV Genie to Vizio Soundbar/TV via HDMI and eARC causing sound problems
When I power everything on sometimes sound works but as of late last 6 months sound will turn on only about half the time. I then have to reboot the vizio tv several times in order to get sound on again.
The Direct TV Genie is linked via HDMI to the TVs 1080 120hz port. The sound bar is linked to tv via HDMI to eARC port.
Have tried a ton of different settings with no luck. Always same result. Just switched the genie into the regular HDMI 2 port. Fixed issue for right now but am expecting it to stop sound next time I turn off/on TV.
no issues with sound for streaming services in any setting.

We'd be glad to help, firstly we want to make sure:
1. Have you checked the connections between the soundbar and receivers? Look for any loose connections between them that can be causing the problem.
2. Have you attempted using a different cable of the same type (HDMI eARC) and still experience the same issues? Just to make sure if the issue is a not a faulty cable.

Sometimes, Secondary Audio Programming (SAP) creates sound problems, let's try to switch:
1. Press INFO on your remote control.
2. Press the right arrow to highlight Audio/Video on the info bar.
3. Select English Dolby Audio. (May vary depending on receiver type).
Finally, please share with us the model of your DIRECTV receiver.

Over the past year, I have toggled back and forth with dolby option on direct tv and it hasn’t affected anything. But currently have it in Dolby. The sound cuts out on start up of that helps at all. I will turn all three devices on via the direct tv remote and all the sound wont come on. Thats when o have change through tv options mainly: surround on, off, virual x and the audio variable out: auto, pcm, digital. This doesnt hep sound come through until after reboot of tv. But now the reboot isnt helping either. Actual vizio tv sound is off.
