DIRECTV app on Gemini Devices
Why does DIRECTV block the DIRECTV app on the Play Store for Gemini devices?
I have a specific use case where I have DIRECTV Satellite, but would like to add DIRECTV Stream for DVR overflow when I max out my tuners. I like to DVR most of the sports I watch so I can zip through commercials. Unfortunately, I cannot download the DIRECTV app on my Gemini devices.
It seems my only options are:
1. Add another streaming device to all of my TVs, which I do not want to do. I like having one remote, and the Gemini already allows me to watch all my other streaming apps.
2. Use YouTube TV Sports Package for overflow, which is what I’m currently doing since I can install YTTV on my Geminis.
I would prefer to use DIRECTV Stream over YTTV, but that isn’t currently an option if I want to use my Geminis that are already installed on all my TVs.
Why does DIRECTV block their own app and drive users like me—while few, I’m sure—to competitors instead of just letting us use the app? I already have separate email addresses for Stream vs Satellite, so it would be easy to just log in with my stream account.

I may be doing something against the rules, if so, then delete my post.
Did you try/find a "sideload" app and then load the DTV streaming app?
I have not done this on the Gemini, but on an NVIDIA Shield

I haven’t tried that. I read somewhere that enabling developer mode on Gemini devices disables them, so I’m afraid to try it.

I'm afraid too ;-)
I'm content to sideload to my TV, not as convenient but safer.

Downloading the DIRECTV App on a Gemini device for Satellite customers is restricted as it is built with Satellite TV functionality to provide a distinction from our Streaming service, @mmaslar. Adding another compatible device to your TV would be a game changer! More info here: https://spr.ly/61218B69VMs John, DIRECTV Community Team

Adding another device to each of my TVs defeats the purpose of what I’d like to accomplish. The whole point is that I want to have one device and one remote for my TVs. I have other streaming devices, which I use when I travel and on some of my TVs, but I don’t want to have to add another device to each of my TVs in my house. It really doesn’t make sense that DIRECTV has an app that works on every Android TV device except the one that is DIRECTV branded. The app is separate from Satellite, so I really don’t get it. Oh well. I’ll just stick with YouTubeTV for streaming, I guess, since that works on DIRECTV’s Gemini.

Yep, I hear you, but since I have a DVD, blu-ray, tape deck and vcr hooked up to my receiver and DTV Gemini... you won't do that with any DTV remote...
I have a 3rd party unit that has macros, so power on turns on the appropriate device, picks the right inputs and outputs, etc.
Yeah, it's just like the DTV remote, barely can handle a separate device for volume and mute... clearly a corporate decision.... understandable, saves them $$ in support.
I stream inside my home by doing it over Ethernet and even also converting it to channel 3 to re-use my old coax inside.
But none of this is helping you.

My main TV is hooked up to a receiver with a PS5, Apple TV, Shield Pro and Gemini with a Harmony remote that can run macros. That one certainly wouldn’t be an issue, but I have three other TVs I use in the same room and would like to not have remotes everywhere.
I have found a way to make it work for me, but I like DIRECTV Stream better than YTTV and I’m trying to offer DIRECTV an opportunity to take more of my money lol.

Ideally, DIRECTV would offer a cloud DVR add-on for satellite sometime in the future. That would really solve my problem.

Thanks for sharing your feedback! A cloud DVR add-on for our satellite customers is a great idea. We'll forward it to our team so they can review and determine the next steps. Rizza, DIRECTV Community Team
