Do I really need a b band converter with an HR24 receiver?
Do I really need a B-Band converter with the upgraded HD receiver? Our current receiver is also HD and it doesn't require a b band converter.

Depends on if you have a SWM system or a legacy system. A legacy system would need two coaxes one for each tuner for all receivers and will need the BBC(b band connectors). A SWM system only one coax to each receiver and a separate power inserter, the HR54 Genie and the HS17 Genie2 have it built in and doesn't require the BBC.
