HS17-500 Genie 2 Malfunction
HS17-500 Genie 2 replaced twice. Device reports connection to internet via ethernet. Will also connect in wireless mode to 2.4 ghz network. Will not load or stream on demand programs. Reports receiver not ready for downloads and may take up to 3 hrs. Will not load weather, sports or music applications when right arrow of RC73 remote is pressed, error 409. Will not run speed test but reports device is connected to internet. ISP sees Genie 2 and reports device capable of 4K streaming.

OK, Genie Mini... what does the mini report as to it's internet connection, and quality of "bridge" between the server and itself?

I have the internet connected icon in the upper left. All Genies report excellent internet connectivity to the tower. Software update is okay but unable to run speed test or access on demand programs yet

Ok, a bit of information.. the Clients do NOT connect to the Interned via the tower.
The clients connect to the server for DTV stuff, and it is a separate Wi-Fi network NOT connected to anything but thye DTV boxes.
So, let's find what is connected and how..
hit the menu button
select settings
select internet setup
select speed test (you intdicate this fails, so just check again)
select advanced setup
you will get a screen that should have 7 lines...
please copy ALL seven lines to this thread... we'll figure this out.

well, the Genie Mini believes it is connected. It has a local ip address.
I assume your home computer would show an ip address of 192.168.0.x
You could check to be sure that the dns show matches the dns on your computer, to make sure your Genie Mini is actually connected to YOUR router...
You can check this by opening a DOS / CMD window on your computer and typing:
ipconfig /all (space between the g and the slash)
it's worth checking since your situation is not working.
No, you do not get to the internet from the Genie 2 tower, again. The tower is connected to the internet, but since you have a Genie Mini client, not sure what it takes, other than streaming content I would think. My Gemini client does all it's apps through ITS wifi and/or hardwire.
Really not relevant, since your Mini is not working for some reason.
My suggestion above is my best guess now, will keep thinking on what can make the Mini say it is connected to the Internet, but cannot get streaming.. hmm...
the other clue is the receiver (that is the tower) says it's not ready for downloads, that is weird and have not seen that error message..
here's some suggestions from reddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/DirecTV/comments/16jguyk/genie_says_connected_to_internet_but_cant/
if the link is killed, just google "Genie 2 tower reports not ready for downloads"
I assume you went into the Genie 2 menu and looked there?

All Genies are working. As previously reported the HS17-500 is connected to the internet but my DTV account says otherwise. This issue is more than likely software related. The HS17-500 does not ship to customers with the latest software. It is necessary for the HS17-500 to download the latest software sometime during installation. I suspect that is the issue. Thanks for your interest but I have some other ideas that might work.

now clarified, so good, because the Genie Mini info looks right.
Yep, reddit says that error message can be a failed update to the tower.
