New Gemini box, requires stream password? (satellite customer)

We are 20+ year satellite subscribers.  Directv offered us a new "upgraded" box called gemini for no cost.  We accepted, received the box and attempted to install.  After setting up wifi and updates we land on a "Welcome to Directv Stream sign-in page".  When I enter usual directv login info I receive the following message:

You're attempting to sign-in to directv stream using a directv user id and password.  Please go back and try again.  Care Code 205.61

Called directv and was literally transferred to 9 different customer service reps between phone calls and chat over a four hour period.  Most of them had no idea what I was talking about.  It was extremely frustrating as I was put on hold with each transfer and as soon as I reached somebody they would try to transfer me again.  Finally reached someone who "specialized" in gemini and was told I should not be taken to a stream sign-in and it must be a defective box.  They sent me a new box I received today and it is the exact same thing.  I don't have it in me to start over on the phone.

Is there anyone who is a current satellite customer that has successfully "upgraded" to gemini?

I’ve heard of this issue multiple times now. DIRECTV is sending customers Geminis that don’t have the right firmware for satellite customers. They are still loaded with the ‘DIRECTV STREAM’ firmware. Your only bet is reaching customer service again (number in my greeting below) to replace your box. You may also request a technician to come out and diagnose the issue but chances are that the tech doesn’t carry the Gemini yet or has little experience with them since they are rather new.

Somebody at DirecTV stuffed the wrong C71's into the Gemini boxes. You'll need to get it swapped by calling DirecTV.

They actually sent me 2 new gemini to try after the 1st one failed and the problem is the same on all of them.  I now have 3 to send back and finally hooked my old receiver back up.  I am officially giving up.  I don't understand how they can keep messing this up!  Maybe check the software of the boxes you are sending before sending them, especially replacement boxes.  What a waste of overnight shipping costs for them too!

This has pretty much cemented me leaving directv.  The customer service is now horrible and they are losing the nfl package.  In researching this issue on this forum it was also mentioned the "free" gemini requires a 12 month commitment.  I do not want any kind of commitment to this company.  Don't offer the gemini to satellite customers if they are not ready, especially since customer support is basically non-existent.   I also asked for a tech appointment to help with this and they said the techs don't have replacement boxes and can't help.

Thanks directv for wasting hours of my life.  I didn't really want to bother switching services, but you have inspired me!

Nope they are sending me replacements for the replacements I already have. They have no clue.

it took me getting a total of EIGHT Gemini minis to get THREE that work! after getting them, the next problem was finding someone on the dedicated Gemini line that knows how to correctly activate! Luckily I finally got a supervisor (Jay) that was awesome and actually called ME back when I received the replacements... if i had to do it over again, I might not, until they figure things out. Not enough of an upgrade to warrant the hassle, but it's done and so far working

I received 2 new Gemini boxes with the correct firmware for satellite connection. I spent two hours with the Gemini "tech support" trying to get them activated and they never could.  Boxing them up and returning them tomorrow.  What a total cluster.  Their tech support and customer service are bad enough, you add that to the unusable garbage they're sending out, and it's time to tell them to get lost. I'm done with these incompetent boobs.
