rc73b only controlling volume and power on sanyo tv.
Just bought a brand new rc73b from walmart. I do Not have a receiver to go with this, this is just for the tv in my fathers semi. From a list of 5 different codes, 2 of them connected to the tv, and each had the same problem of only controlling the volume up and down, mute, and power on/off.

the rc73b is not a universal remote, it is designed to control a directv receiver with very limited TV controls. Return it to the store and get a true universal remote dsigned for TVs.

All DTV remotes are made to only control the volume on/off and mute of a TV.

Ah, well thats kind of crappy. It's being sold as a universal remote.. And coming from the older directv remotes, I wouldn't have thought the newer ones wouldn't be. But I guess theres not much choice in the matter. Thank you.

I know that is very untrue. I still have my rc64 from when I used to do directv tech support. I have used it as a regular remote for multiple tvs, sound systems, and dvd players. I never had a problem getting those to work as universal remotes for pretty much any tv, but up until today, I had never even seen the new models, or heard of the genie stuff.

While the RC6X remotes can control other devices they are made to only do the basic on/off, mute and volume.
The RC7X remotes are made to be programed by the Genie/minis in RF although there are manual codes that can be entered.

But,, thats what I was saying before.. I know its Not for only "made to only do the basic on/off, mute and volume." the rc64 can control much more than just the volume and power on my tv.. It controls everything the regular remote would, from volume, to channels, to the input, and everything in the menu.. I have used it on multiple tv's and devices over the years to do more than just the volume...
and the rc73b, why would the market and sell it as a universal remote if it did not have such capacities? and If it were programed to the tv through a genie/mini, would it be able to control more than just the volume and power? why does it have an input option?
but again, its obviously not going to work. so no point in trying to figure that one out.

The RC73b is not sold as a universal remote. It's a remote for a genie, and also has the ability to control power on/off and volume, and for some TVs the input select also.

So, youre saying it Will control everything on the tv, but Only if the tv has a genie hooked up to it. Which seems to mean that it Can control everything on the tv, as you have to use tv codes to connect it to a tv. But you have to buy an extra peripheral to unlock those functions.
And when the remote was bought, he asked about the universal remotes, and the rc73 was touted as the best one they had in stock. It was on the shelves alone. No other directv related items being sold in the store. It might not be sold as a universal remote where you are, but its definitely being sold as one around here.
