Recording from start of program

After we start a tv program & are watching it, if we begin recording it, the program

won’t record from the beginning. It begins recording from a few minutes before the moment I select “Record” in the Guide & set the recording options to record “This Episode”. If there are no upcoming “Other Showings”, then we can never record the entire episode.
