Splitters
My dish is connected to swm and out to a, Direct TV installed, splitter and then out to my 6 receivers. I want to add another TV and receiver to my living room which only has one cable from the splitter downstairs. Can I split the existing cable in the living room and add the receiver and TV? What kind of splitter would I need to use?

Yes, you can split the cable from the living room being that it is connected from the splitter outside. Just be sure to get an approved DIRECTV SWM splitter. Also, the part of the splitter that says ‘POWER PASS’ must be powered by a power inserter. Whether you decide to have the power inserter in the living room or other room, it doesn’t matter. Just make sure it is connected to the power pass port (RED). Otherwise, error 775 will appear. However, if an HR54 or H44 is currently in the living room, a power inserter is not required since those receivers provide the necessary power themselves.
Here is a link to a 1x2 DIRECTV SWM splitter on Amazon:

Just a warning. Having a 6-way followed by a 2-way splitter creates a 12-way split to the signal. Directv recommends only an 8-way split. Unless some of the cable runs are very long it should not be a problem

DTV only has 2,4 or 8way splitters

In that case, it would be an 8-way splitter being used to distribute signal across the six receivers.
I also for some reason thought there were 6 way splitters. Guess I was wrong. Thanks for the catch @shannon02

so an 8-way followed by a 2-way gives a 16-way split.
