Standard definition connection through rca cables doesn’t work since software update

I was told when I got the Directv genie that I could connect it to a standard definition tv using the RCA ports in the back of the genie.  So I have an old small tv in my bathroom connected to my main master bedroom genie with these RCA cables. I have been able to watch on it whatever is playing on the main tv, which is connected to the genie through hdmi. Until this week, this system worked wonderfully.

Since the august 9, 2021, Directv software update, however,  I now get "no signal" from this RCA connection on the old tv.  I have rebooted everything repeatedly to no avail, have reset the genie several times, and still "no signal" on my old tv through my standard definition RCA cables.

What can be done to restore my appropriate use of my genie for this standard def tv?

thank you,

Have you tried --removing the HDMI cable from the genie? and then see if the RCA connections work?

The main tv is connected with the hdmi cable, so I cannot remove it, since the main tv is how I control what is playing in my bedroom, where I watch it most. The RCA cables connect to a secondary, standard definition, small tv in the attached bathroom. Before the software update, I used to tune the main tv in the bedroom to the station I wanted, turn on the secondary, standard definition  tv  in the bathroom, and have the same picture and sound in both places. The standard definition tv no longer has a signal.

I understand --Unplug the HDMI Cable (from the genie) as see if it changes anything

No signal on a TV usually means the TV is no longer on the correct input.

So you don't have an actual receiver connected to the bathroom tv?

Yes he does through the composite cables.

I have unplugged the HDMI cable from the genie, and still there is no reception on the secondary TV.

I have checked every possible input on the secondary tv. (It used to be AV 1, but I have rotated through tv, AV 2, HDMI 2, component, and even removed the Amazon fire stick from HDMI 1 (where it is working properly) and tried there. I get "no signal" every time.

I even plugged an HDMI cord directly into the main tv, and connected it to the secondary tv to see if that might work.  NOTHING!

@Cnhawley

Thanks for the feed back --On the Genie --try this using your remote --menu -search-(TYPE) CLEARMYBOX --then search --then search all--it will reload the software plugin's (as you said) everything was fine before the software upgrade.

When your TV picture returns --then test your bathroom TV

DO you have another TV to test the (yellow_ Red and white leads) from the genie?

It's possible those inputs have failed on the bathroom TV --If you have a DVD player that has those inputs --test the bathroom TV AV ports --do you get a picture?

@shannon02 , the way I read it was that he has it connected via composite cables to the genie in the bedroom (with it'sown tv),  the 2nd tv is in the bathroom so he has 2 tvs connected to one receiver

Right, he is mirroring the Genie to two TVs and so long as the bedroom TV is on to keep the HDCP handshake active it should work as goldw1800 is checking.

I tried the clearmybox technique above. It reset the box, but did not fix the problem.

I have another tv to try, but I didn’t get a chance to hook it up today.  I sincerely doubt it is the AV 1 ports, because there is another set of RCA ports on the back of the old standard def tv (AV 2), and I tried them and they likewise didn’t work.

I have gone through every single setting in the Directv menu, and I do not see any that have changed. The only thing that’s changed is the software upgrade.

A software update wouldn't effect the HDMI output that you said you tried on the bathroom TV and I assume that the bedroom TV is still working on HDMI.
