Using the Genie

I am technically challenged and I'm OK with that but sometimes this old lady has a couple of questions.

First one: Do I need internet service to use the Genie?

Secondly: What is the Genie for?

A genie is a Media server --one type of genie HR54 can connect direct to a tv another type of Genie HS17 does not -it sends Video out to Mini's attached to Tv's . You do Need Internet service to use a genie --However you will not get Video on demand or any internet services like apps

You can call 1-800-531-5000 for D*TV Satellite Service --Do not call AT&T as you will be required to have internet stream service

No, internet is NOT required to use a Genie, but certain services like on-demand and apps will not be accessible. Satellite TV was made in the first place as a sole purpose to give tv access to those with low to no internet speeds.

In case you don’t understand the term media server, a genie is a Directv satellite receiver. It receives tv channels from the satellite which you can view on your tv. A genie can support multiple tv’s. In addition to being a satellite receiver, a genie is also a digital video recorder or dvr. You can record any satellite channel to watch later.
