UVerse & Land Line using same jack

just had a new land line installed. AT&T was supposed to use a second jack in the house, but they used the UVerse DSL line. I plugged the phone into the back of the Gateway and it does not work. I then used a two line filter and it works, but does this compromise the dsl?

Is the cable from your wall phone jack to your RG a premade cable?

Assuming the cable from your phone jack to your RG is apx 3ft (as long as 6ft), is yours connected with a standard out of the box prefabbed cable or did your AT&T install tech make up a line custom at time of install? Reason I ask is because my installer made a cable up for us and its really too lon
