DirecTV Now Grandfathered Plans no longer honored?

Whats the point of having a grandfathered plan if they don't honor it anymore?  $100 a month for go big that was supposed to be $35 (yes it says it can change based upon the list price but with no list price you can't fight it).  We all know they have been trying to get rid of the early adopters for a while now and we all know AT&T is the best at getting out of anything.

So what now?  Its just as expensive for this as it is for traditional video service in my area.

Contacting support does nothing.  They don't even know what a grandfathered plan is.

DIRECTV STREAM (NOW) is no longer available for new subscribers. Existing DIRECTV STREAM subscribers may keep their service as long as their service remains active and is paid monthly. Former NOW customers can reactivate their account with current pricing and packaging.

So you're not going to honor the terms and conditions that we signed up under in 2016 where it says that we get a discount on the base price? You don't list the base price so there's no way to call you out on this. But if you look online you can find the advertisement that shows this information.

I was told by a rep that the Grandfathered plans were only grandfathered for the programing package, not that price. Makes sense as all programing has increased yearly since the early days of cable.

There is a picture that I will try to find that shows the advertisement that we all signed up under. It says that we will receive a discounted rate based on the base price. Well they removed the base price so there's no way to know what that's supposed to be. It's a classic bait and switch scenario but AT&T will never admit to it.

An increase in my bill is something I want to avoid as a customer like you. DIRECTV periodically adjusts package pricing as its programming costs continue to increase, this affects all DIRECTV packages, including grandfathered DIRECTV STREAM (NOW) accounts. We'd love to provide a personalized resolution for you, please don't hesitate to DM us on one of our Social Media accounts as posted above. John, DIRECTV Community Specialist

If you really are concerned then you'll send me a message on here. But I'm going to screenshot everything and show everybody else

Has anyone with 'go big' plan had any luck getting a discount with the retention department?  How did you do it?  The best offer I was given was $20 one time which I did not take.

Thank you for posting this thread.  I am one of those Go Big Early Adopters and will be cancelling my service with the latest price increase.  I started in November 2016 and was paying 39.61 per month, after taxes.  The promise of keeping a low price was empty.  They needed the early adopters to get the service off the ground back then and believe me when I say it was a very painful beginning.  I feel that we were cast aside after the second or third pricing increase.  They routinely expanded the package definition since 2016 and used that as an excuse to raise our prices.  The latest $10 increase will put me at approx $120 after tax starting next month.  That’s 3 times what I was paying in the beginning.  It’s time for me to move on.

Moving this thread to the forefront.  I'm working to identify the ideal solution for replacing DirecTV streaming after having been taken advantage of for about 7 YEARS with their price increases.  Are there alternatives that include other services and OTA options?  I've started down this path, would anyone be interested in helping me?   Looking for and willing to invest in finding an option that has a high WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) and falls in line with my original "promised" price of $35/month.

"Only a discount." means that my rate can go from $35 to $120 at your discretion?  You are right, I am the naive customer in this scenario.  I want out and I'm looking for my best, longer-term, option.

Instead of expanding my package and increasing my price, was there an alternative to keeping my price, but "adjusting my packet"...NO, NEVER.  I paid the price to be an early adopter and the organizations involved only made money from it...(lots of money)

The price listed at $35 was supposed to be a reduction or a discounted price based upon the retail price of that package at the time. However since AT&T has done their clever tactics by removing the package and the price they can pretty much just put out any price they want and there's no way to call them out on it. Should you ask them what the base price is supposed to be they won't tell you. They will only give you the option to cancel your service if you don't agree with it.

You make a great point that "Nothing was stated about a lifetime price.", I put that in bold so that everyone sees you are not at fault...that statement is not in the text of the original offer that was made 7 years ago (shame on me).  BUT, for what it's worth, I was never asking for a "lifetime price", but I did not expect that my only choice was quadrupling my price (for those of you who work for DirecTV and reading this and/or responding to it, quadrupling means multiplying by 4...in other words, if you used to pay $100/month for your cellphone, now you're paying $400/month...you might have more services, but you're a lot more).  Defend this all you want, and get the lawyers involved; I don't have a legal case.  BUT YOU MADE TONS OF MONEY AT THE EXPENSE OF THE EARLY ADOPTERS, and I'm truly sorry to the community that, after paying you for the last 7 years, I did not point this out to the community before this point.

Completely agree with your comments that we could have left at any time.

The post from the rep states "Good for you. Hope you find it"...that statement says it all.  Your sincerity (or lack thereof) and sarcasm should tell any observers whether to no you really care about the consumer.

At the end of the day, it's all about data analytics...honestly, my complaint will go nowhere...but there is an ethical issue here that is being ignored.

nufsaid...anyone that reads this can decide for themselves what to do.
