Directv app gone from my Sony TV after years of use

Directv app gone overnight from my roku app after years of use. Downloaded it again through the roku app on my Sony TV, but when I click on it, nothing happens. Paying a lot of money for my premium Directv service and now unable to use. AT&T tech support no help - blamed roku. Any suggestions?

We have no known issue with the DIRECTV app download process for Roku devices at this time, so this may be related to your specific hardware. Please visit the Roku Help Center for specialized troubleshooting to help get the app installed. Charles, DIRECTV Community Team

We apologize for the app issues, @JERRYDAVID. Please ensure your Roku is updated to the latest OS. You can also check if your model is still supported on our compatibility list here: Streaming devices compatible with DIRECTV | DIRECTV Support If it still won't open, reply here or click "Contact Us" at the bottom of the page for more help. Why would the Roku operate without problems for years and then, overnight, remove itself and not allow itself to install when re-downloaded? What could have changed overnight to cause this? Obviously if it worked for 2 years it was compatible with the Sony TV. There weren't any updates to either device the night before it disappeared.

I'm puzzled ....

There's a "Roku App" on your Sony TV? Is your TV a Roku TV? Typically the DirecTV App would be installed on a standalone Roku device or Roku TV. Please clarify.

Hi litzdog911, You are probably more of a techy than me, but I'll try to explain, The DirecTV app existed on my Sony in two ways. The first was to download just the DirecTV App onto the Sony platform and install. I did that and can access it in that manner. However, we have found over the years that that Roku stick plugged into the HDMI port provides a more user-friendly way to watch TV. For instance, the Sony remote does not allow continuous fast forwarding or reversal features like the Roku does. There are other subtle differences not worth mentioning, including familiarity, but our other 5 TVs have Roku sticks and are easy to use on each of those. If I have no other choice, I'll use the DirecTV app on the Sony versus accessing it through the stick. Regardless, my initial question still goes unanswered. Why and how did the DirecTV app disappear from the list when I used the Roku to watch TV? And secondly, after I downloaded the DirecTV app through the Roku search feature, why will it not install when clicked on? It's like one of those "gray" boxes that when you click on, nothing happens. so, there for 2 years, disappeared overnight, re-downloaded the next day and visible, but basically a dead link as no install occurs when you click on it. Hope that helps. I like a good mystery but irritated about the loss of function of my Roku. It has lots of apps on it that aren't on my Sony and I don't want to go through the process of downloading all of them onto my Sony if I didn't have to.
