Directv Gemini with VPN

We use Gemini streaming boxes because they are so convenient with the remotes. When we travel in our RV, I used to use one with VPN and it was fine. Now, when VPN is ON the Gemini streaming box will not connect to TV, or streaming apps like Netflix. I've actually tried our 2nd Gemini and stand alone is fine, with VPN, no good?! 

Did Directv push an firmware update or something that broke this functionality with VPN?

The apps in your Gemini require access to your current location to provide access to all available channels in your area. Just a heads-up, the streaming rights are limited to the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are not covered. We want to make sure you receive the best DIRECTV services, so they’re tailored to your IP address or physical location. Using a VPN may accomplish the service agreement. ok, this does not answer the question, so even if I don't use VPN for DirecTV streaming..... I used to be able to use VPN on the Gemini, for ALL my other apps as well. Now they are ALL broken. 

The question is:

Did Directv push an firmware update or something that broke this functionality with VPN?

UPDATE:
Complete RESET of Gemini and reinstall programs did not resolve issue. VPN on Gemini breaks EVERY application.
