Directv Stream and local channels

I currently have a Directv satellite subscription but am considering switching to Directv stream.  However, my billing zip code yields a different set of local channels than I normally watch.  Is there a way to specify a zip code other than the billing zip code for selecting the local channels that are available?

Nope. Locals are based on your billing zip code and the IP address of the device.

Thanks.  How does the IP address factor in?  On a mobile device that could be anywhere.

That's different from your home based locals. When traveling, you will receive the traveling locals if the service has agreement with the networks in that area.

Hello @demisod . We are here to clear things up regarding local channels.

Thanks for your accurate and prompt response @bcbsncjlj .

Watch local channels in DIRECTV STREAM, would be based on your billing ZIP Code and market area. Let me start sharing how your location and billing ZIP Code affect local channels you can watch.

Last but no least, you can find more information about our packages and great features on our DIRECTV STREAM website.

We'll be here to give you a hand in case is needed.

Thanks.  I am right on the edge of two zip codes that receive different locals.  Would really prefer the locals associated with the locals from the other zip.  If I had a P.O. Box in that zip and used it for the billing address for the account, would that work? Or would Directv get confused about my home IP addresses?

It's probably more associated with your IP address than the zip code, since you split 2 different ones. Do you know where your IP is defined by your ISP?

Hi @demisod, we get the importance of enjoying your local channels. The ZIP code to enjoy them depends on the place from where you are accessing to the services. It means that if you access from a different place, the local channels provided will be those attached to the place where you are connecting from. Also, you will receive the channels where is located your service address.

Basically, I believe if you had a billing address in the area that you want the locals from, perhaps a friend's address??  And you turned off location settings on whatever device you are using, you would get the locals for the billing address.

Not every device has location services. Fire Sticks and Roku's do not. You may even get prompted to turn it on, or it want even load the guide.
