Directv stream device, how to end stream and watch content on another device
I just got one of the DirecTV branded stream boxes and am wondering how to stop it from streaming live content without using the power button on the remote. I don't want to turn off the TV, I just want to do something like watch content on my AppleTV or watch local channels by antenna. DirecTV tells me to just change inputs to watch my other devices, but I don't want the stream box continuing to eat up data and bandwidth. Is the only way to stop data stream to unpair the remote from controlling the TV so that I can use the power button to turn off the stream device?

No, once your tv is paired with the remote for the streaming box it will shut off both your tv and the box at the same time. You are correct that you would have to unpair the remote to your tv in order to just turn the box off. The only other way would be to turn everything off and use the remote that came with your TV to turn it back on. Either way, it is a big inconvenience but turning off the TV and turning it back on would save you a lot of time unpairing and repairing your remote to your tv. Hope this helps.
