Error 80003-001 on older ATT streaming device
I have an older device that I used when I had ATT myTV service years ago. I just signed up for DIRECTV Stream and the device will not go past the updates and gives an error 80003-001 for update failure. Is there a firmware update that can be installed via USB port?

You could call customer service to see if your box is compatible with DirecTV stream. You could also get a refurbished Directv stream box on their website for 49.99 and it is the new version that they use now and it comes with a 1-year warranty

Are you using Wi-Fi or Ethernet? There were reports in the past of issues using Wi-Fi. Try Ethernet.

Thanks. I have already ordered a couple of boxes. They are the same model as the one I have. I was hoping to get mine working as well. I’ve used both Wi-Fi and Ethernet. I’m hoping Direct TV might have an update I could download and install via USB port.

This error code means that the TV device is having issues while checking the new software updates and/or while downloading the software update. When this error code occurs, we suggest that you hit the “try again” button and it will go away. If this doesn’t work, you can also restart the TV device and internet device.
This may help you,

I actually discovered the fix to resolve the issue where it will not update.
You must push the red reset button to make the device restart. When the splash screen comes on the TV hit the reset button again. Wait till the splash screen comes on and hit the reset button again. Do this 10 times and it forces the device to a full reset and starts the device as if it were brand new and takes you through the new setup.

Actually, to do a full factory reset, you hold the button down for about 30 seconds and the device will restart and do a full factory reset.

I actually tried that multiple times with no success. It is an older AT&T branded Osprey box (same model as current boxes) and it would appear to go into a factory reset but would hang on the software update and then say try again. It was not until I did the 10 times on the reset button that it changed from the ATT splash screen to the DirectTV Stream splash screen and was able to download the software and complete the setup. It seems there was some leftover code from ATT that directed the software download request to an obsolete URL. The 10 resets in a row seems to completely reset the box in a manner that the 30 second reset does not.
