Gemini Air Reliability

I've been very pleased with the original Gemini set top boxes with their wired Internet connections.

Now that the original set top boxes have been discontinued, I'm curious to hear customer opinions regarding the reliability of the Gemini Air WiFi connections.

Has anyone experienced any issues maintaining Internet connectivity?

Thank you,

Tim

@dlcarp Good to hear the device reconnected to your Wi-Fi without any intervention. How did the disconnect manifest itself - buffering symbol, or some other message?

I didn't take a screen shot so I don't remember exactly what it looked like but the message indicated that I no longer had internet connectivity. All the other devices using wi-fi in the house (Nest, Ring, tablets, etc.) were still connected. Next time it happens, I will.

They're charging $120.00 for a $40 Google Chromecast device. I don't understand (Edited per community guidelines) DTV is doing.  They allow the contract with Nexstar to run out instead of keeping it through 10/21 while they continue negotiations. They are now scrapping the Gemini Set top box for  a dongle that you have to hang off your tv, that only connects via wifi, and worst of all, they are charging $120.00 for the thing when it is nothing more than  a Chromecast with DTV firmware.

Is DTV TRYING to run off their customers?

@4CDAD I too am wondering why they are abandoning what appears to be an excellent streaming STB for the dongle solution. After evaluating the original Gemini, I was designing a solution for a very large home. Now I need to reconsider using the Gemini Air. I really thought the Gemini was going to be the path to the future with IP based streaming for residential and commercial applications.

The Gemini box seems to be so much better performance wise.  The Gemini AIr is complete garbage.  Constant audio/video sync issues and then internet connection issues (I have AT&T Fiber 1000) even though the router is in the same room.  I just use the Gemini box because the AIR is annoying with the audio/video sync issues.

I've never had an issue with my Gemini Air. As good as the box for me.

I've had the Gemini Air devices for about two weeks now and haven't encountered any major issues with the operation of them yet. But, I have noticed that they stay very warm while powered on, which concerns me.

Maybe I have a defective device.  I received mine through the customer trial a few months before it became available. I wonder if Directv would exchange it for a new one. It has never worked well from the start.

I have 3 Gemini remotes and all loose connections to the internet forcing me to do a hard restart. No other device experiences this problem and the internet is good.
what can I do?

I, too, would like an answer to this post about Fast Forward.  Seems quite hit/miss the way it is.  We've only had Directv Air for a few months and this is about the only drawback we've experienced.
