IR on Remote?
1) Is the Gemini (not Gemini Air) streaming box (supplied with Frontier/Verizon service) remote capable of sending IR HEX codes to the box for all buttons?
2) I'll assume that the VOICE button requires bluetooth, but I'm not interested in that feature. So, are all the buttons (except voice) IR capable?
3) Just to be clear, I'm not interested in using the supplied remote at all, I just need the IR HEX codes that each button sends so I can send them from another device.
4) Does Direct TV publish the IR HEX codes as many companies do? This is not a deal breaker, it saves me the time of having to learn each button.

To jump straight into your questions:
Yes, the remote is pure IR out of the box with no Bluetooth active until paired. Once paired, it switches to a Bluetooth/IR hybrid mode. For your plan, you should capture the codes right out of the box. Pairing is actually not mandatory for the initial setup screens, the Gemini box's IR receiver eye is always ON and listening for standard DIRECTV IR signals, so your third-party system can handle the setup from the start. Once the remote goes into the drawer, its pairing status won't matter or interfere with your blaster at all, as the box's IR sensor never shuts off. Charles, DIRECTV Community Team

Hi @AVGeek. DIRECTV does not publish IR HEX codes, though its standardized signals allow most generic or third-party universal control systems to easily operate the Gemini streaming box right out of their pre-existing equipment databases. Melchisedec, DIRECTV Community Team

Is the remote configured for IR or Bluetooth out of the box?
Does the remote need to be paired (bluetooth) for the initial set-up or can you set-up without pairing.
I read somewhere that if you press two specific buttons, that unpairs the remote and makes it IR only. Can you confirm that procedure and the buttons?

The remote is configured for IR right out of the box., Second, you must pair the remote during the initial setup for the buttons to function properly. And lastly, to change the remote to IR mode, press and hold the Dash (-) and Apps (or Diamond) keys simultaneously. The LEDs on both sides will blink blue once. Continue holding for about 3 seconds until the LEDs blink blue two more times, confirming successful unpairing. Once in this mode, pressing any key will flash a combination of blue and red LEDs on each side, which creates a purple glow. Melchisedec, DIRECTV Community Team

Thanks the clarifications, I'm getting closer to what I need to know with every reply.
You state that the remote is "IR right out of the box," so does that mean:
1) there is no BT functionality until you pair it?
2) when you pair it is the remote all BT now or BT and IR?
Just so we are clear on what I'm needing to do:
1) Capture (learn) the IR HEX codes for each button
2) Perform initial setup
3) Remote will go in a drawer, never to be used
So knowing this should I:
Step 1) Capture the IR HEX codes with remote out of the box?
Step 2) Pair the remote to perform setup (mandatory?)
at this point I have the HEX codes and the box is setup, does it matter if I leave the remote paired or should I unpair it, since it won't be used?
Is the IR receiver eye on the box always ON and waiting to be communicated with or does that change depending on how the remote is configured?

I used an older Directv satellite remote RC73 with my Gemini box/Air a couple of years ago worked fine. It's IR/RF

To the DIRECTV Community Team members who responded here. I have been attempting to get (what I consider) simple questions answered for almost a year. Tech support refused to get involved, and frankly had no idea what I was even talking about. I applaud you!
