It should be quite simple. Plug the DirecTV Stream box's HDMI OUT to one of your TV's HDMI INPUTS. Select that INPUT on your TV. Program the DirecTV Stream remote to the TV if you want. That's it.

I tried that and the problem is when you use the DirecTV Stream Device remote to turn on the the device it defaults to the hdmi port used by the previous tv and then I have to use the tv remote to select the correct hdmi port. I would like to run through the setup routine that you would get with a new DirecTV Stream device that identifies the connected tv and hdmi port.

You'll need reset the DirecTV Stream remote and reprogram it to your new TV. The Stream box itself doesn't know what HDMI INPUT on your TV it's connected to. The remote control does that. Also, if your TV supports "HDMI CEC" control, then the TV should automatically switch to the DirecTV Stream box's HDMI connection when it's turned on.

Hello @TVNutCase99, we're here to assist with your HDMI inquiry.

To ensure that your DIRECTV stream box recognizes the new TV, let's try restarting it. To do this, please follow next steps:

- Press and release the red button on the side.
- Unplug your device for at least 30 seconds, and then plug it back in.

Let us know how it goes. We're here to help.

I'm not sure how the DTVS device could do that (other than maybe some weird CEC behavior).  However, you can cause a "factory reset" by pushing and holding the red button on side of the device until the TV starts displaying a DirecTV logo (or maybe an AT&T logo).  At that point it should go through the complete clean setup.  This will also cause it to lose any additional apps you have installed and any logins, etc. that are saved.

I have not tried the steps from jradomuser, however holding down the reset button has no effect and going into system and forcing it to redetect the remote did not fix the issue. Whenever the tv starts it does not default to the hdmi port that the DirecTV Stream box is connected to, it connects to the hdmi port it was previously connected. I want to move the hdmi connection to a different port to free up the old port to easily connect my phone or iPad to.

I'm not sure about current units, but on the early ones, you needed to hold the red button down 20-30 seconds for the factory reset.

And I'm not sure what you mean that "it connects to the hdmi port it was previously connected".  You said this was a new TV, implying the DTVS box had never been connected to it, so how does it connect to the previous port?

Sorry.  Working on two issues.  Current issue is I want to move the DirecTV Stream Device from HDMI 3 to HDMI 1.  When i turn on the TV it initially selects hdmi 1 and subsequently switches to hdmi 3 which is the previous port I was using for the DirecTV Stream Device

As i suspected a factory reset is the only was to change the hdmi port that was set on the initial install.

@DIRECTVhelp - David, do you reps get paid to take threads private?  That's the only explanation I can come up with for your unrelenting drive to take threads that have no account issues or any other reason that the discussion couldn't go on in public (where it might assist other users) to private messaging, .  Well, except for the fact that I have never seen a DIRECTVhelp rep actually provide any technical help, so the likelihood that other users - or the OP - would benefit either way is basically zero.
