Proper way to hook up C71kw-400to a Sony Multi ChannelAV receiver
I replaced my Dish with the directv streaming but I don't get a picture on the Samsung TV. I had to connect the streaming box directly to the TV one connect box directly and use the TV speakers. this is not good.

That is the way streaming devices work. They need to be connected directly to the TV.

Well the directv streaming device has an option to use tv speakers or a home theater system so I am back to square one . My AV is old 2006 maybe its too old for the new technology but it is equipped with HDMI for input, VCR and Monitor out. I need more help,

Try these troubleshooting steps to help fix sound issues on DIRECTV Stream.
Also, please try to connect the DIRECTV STREAM box to the Sony Multi ChannelAV with a digital optical cable.
Please try and let us know how it goes.

my issue is sound and picture , I get neither if I run the input to my AV so I think I need to set it up in tandem as the voltage from the stream device is not compatible. So do I just plug the HDMI into the Samsung one conect and run a optical cord from the stream device to my AV?

It's correct @chicoharv1, in this case it's necessary to plug your DIRECTV STREAM device to your TV, then you can use your preferred audio cable to connect your TV with the AV.
Let us know if you have any additional questions, we're happy to help!

If your Samsung is a Smart TV, just download the DirecTV Stream App and eliminate all of the extra equipment.

Will post the answer for every one else if it works, Why can't the engineers at AT&T but it in the instructions for us old guys.

It's kind of fixed,I had to use the optical cord , I had a switch on the AV changing it to digital. I also had to reprogram the remote to stereo to get sound , not surround sound. I still can't use the remote to control the volume, but I can do that with the Sony, the Samsung and my Harmony. It would be nice if the Directv remote could control it all, any more suggestion would be appreciated.

Hi @chicoharv1, we are here to help.
We want you to enjoy the service with no issues.
Let me share that since each device needs its own remote control to work, the DIRECTV STREAM remote control will work for DIRECTV STREAM box only. You can also try some steps to Fix DIRECTV STREAM remote control issues and get it properly working with your DIRECTV STREAM device.

@bcbsncjlj - you don't have to hook up the streaming device directly to the TV. I have mine connected through my AVR and it works just fine.

Not saying you can't. The proper way is for the streaming device to be connect first to the TV. If it works for you that is great.

Why? It's just an HDMI connection. The device and the TV are unaware of what they are connected to.
