Roku and Directv Stream Box

I posted this earlier today. I was given a response that will not work but someone marked it as an acceptable answer and I can no longer comment in order to clarify the response.

Here is the original question: I cannot download the Directv Stream app on my LG smart TV so will need to get a Roku or something similar. I wanted to use the Directv Stream voice activated remote but I have read it only works with the Directv Stream Box. Can I still use the box (or will it work) so  can use the remote even if I have to use Roku for the app.

The answer was that the Directv Stream Voice activated remote only works with the Directv streaming box, which I have found is correct. The responder then suggested I buy a refurbished Directv streaming box for streaming. This is where the information is incorrect. According to the Directv Stream list of compatible devices on their website, the only TV's compatible with their streaming box are 2017-2021 Samsung Tv (some models) . Otherwise you have to use Roku, Amazon Fire Stick, Apple TV and a few others using wifi to stream or mobile devices on cellular. Since I am going to Roku, are there any suggestions which Roku device will work best with the Directv Streaming app.

How is such information incorrect? I think their response is fine. The DIRECTV STREAM box is compatible with ANY TV that has an HDMI output. That means any TV made for the last 15-20 years. Let’s not forget about an HDMI to AV adapter, so that means essentially any TV for the last couple centuries. So, no, the box works on any TV.

Now, to your second question. Whichever Roku device on Amazon, eBay, or another shopping website should work fine as long as it is on the list of supported devices. There are less powerful Rokus and then you have the Roku Ultra which is one of the best ones.

Thanks for your answer. After my 4th call to Directv, I think I have some clarification. There are two parts to this-one is the Directv app and the other is the Directv streaming box. I cannot get the app on my LG tv but I was able to get it on my phone to set my account and sign in information. Customer service did say the box would work and as long as I have set up my account in the app on my phone, I will be able to sign on once the Directv streaming box is connected via hdmi. I’ll find out Friday when I get the box. Thx

Well, you need an account (subscription) set up to use any device with the service.  Once that is done, each device you use will need to sign into that account - phone, Roku, DirecTV Stream box, whatever.  And no, they don't have an app for WebOS (LG).  No one out here would have any idea if they have any plans to ever create one.

The DirecTV Stream box is just another streaming device (like a Roku or FireStick) - it just happens to be customized to work particularly well with the DirecTV Stream service (so it behaves more like a cable box).  It has a specialized version of the app built into its code, comes up directly in the service rather than the user having to find and start the app, has a remote allowing channel numbers to be entered and voice control, etc.  It is TV agnostic - as noted, it will work with any TV with an HDMI input, just like any other streaming device.

So we have a Sony Bravia Smart Android TV we were told the app only works with Samsung TV's. We just got the trial last night so we don't have Boxes yet but I want them with the remote cause I am coming from Tivo and am used to that. I don't want to use a Roku remote. But last night my husband went to the app store and didn't see it in the list but he may have overlooked it cause when I went to get it on my phone it showed other devices and listed the TV so I clicked on Install and now we have it on our Sony but I don't want to use that remote neither. So if we decide to keep this after the trial I will order boxes. Can I order them online I was told I can get renewed ones for $49.99.
