Why am I being charged for a device I didnt want and have canceled within a month of purchasing

Purchased Directtv streaming service in March . The service itself is fine but the device is incompatible with my home system . I asked several times about why I needed this device and was told that was policy . Further I was paying a 5 dollar premium to rent / pay for this box box that I cant use on my home theater system. So I canceled the service reboxed the device (still in pristine condition) , stuck a return label on it and looked up the process for sending only to find out Im now on the hook for over $200 dollars for the device . Not to mention payment for the service for the month which was virtually unused.  Not real happy with AT&T and Directtv on the tactics as this device is now a doorstop for all intents and purposes and useless for any other use.

200 dollars? The "device" is only 120. Why was it incompatible?

Also Dtv Stream's trial is only 5 days. Doesn't matter if you cancelled within a month.

Taken from my email

Our cancellation policy requires that you return your DIRECTV STREAM device(s) within 14 days of purchase or shipment date, whichever is later, for a full refund and/or to avoid paying a non‑return fee.

Unfortunately, we either did not receive your DIRECTV STREAM device(s) within the 14‑day cancellation period or the device(s) you returned is damaged. In accordance with our policy, you will be charged:

•   A non‑return fee of $120 for the device(s) included in your service
•   The remaining balance of $115.00 owed on your installment plan

The total payment of {$120 + remaining balance} will be charged to the payment method on your account on 04/11/2022.

I did pay the $79 for the month of service ,no problems there , but this was to be a month to month plan so why on earth am I being charged a "remaining balance in addition to $120 dollars ...Feels like Im getting taken for a ride on this one...

Thought you said "200 dollar device" LOL. U said you canceled within a month. U had to cancel within 14 days to get a refund on the Dtv Stream box. So you owe them 115 since you paid the 1st payment of 5 dollars. You knew the terms but you didn't cancel within 14 days. This is your fault---not the fault of Dtv stream. They lay out the terms to you when you sign up.

No sir..Was never advised on the 14 day term for hardware ..I was advised this was a month to month and I can simply return the box and be done as long as its not destroyed or damaged ...Again didn't want the box in first place I just wanted the stream (via app would have been fine) ...Not disputing the monthly fee for service as I took almost the month to determine this wasn't going to work ...Im disputing charging me for a box I didn't even want in the first place ...With the streaming tech today really not a good model to force their customers to use a box to receive the service ..Lesson learned for me but better believe Ill be letting anyone who may be interested know this is not the value for this very reason ...
