$449 "Credit Management Fee"

I feel ripped off. Has this happened to anyone else?

This is an excerpt my chat session with the AT&T agent where my service terms were specified:

Agent: I am working on your request and see that there is a $449.00 one time security deposit which needs to be processed now to complete the order, however if you can help me with SSN details of any of your family members, I'll be glad to check with that.

Me: If that's the case then I'm not interested My credit is fine.

...

Agent: I have good news for you! I worked on all possible options for you and with adding special promotions with manager approval I am able to give you these two options. 1. Tv U450 + 24Mbps Internet with + 2 Wireless receivers for $121.00 for 12 months with $150 reward card or 2. Tv U450 + 24Mbps Internet + 2 Wireless receivers + Land line service with 200 minutes of free Nation wide calling and free local on-net calls for $149.00 for 24 MONTHS with $100.00 reward card. Please help me with your choice, so that I can assist you further.

Me: Option 1.

Agent: Congratulations!

Me: Are we done?

Agent: I have placed the order for U450 and 24Mbps Internet  for $121.00 per month along with $150.00 reward card "xxx" is the account number and "xxxx" is the order number. Also I am giving 2 Wireless receivers for no additional cost also waiving all one time charges like Installation, Service activation and Modem charges.

Agent: Yes!

Me: Thank you.

See that? "Waiving all one time charges." Apparently, the fine print is "but not the security deposit or credit management fee."

I feel so deceived [Per Guidelines:  Keep it Relevant and Appropriate]..

I have an update ... I just returned to AT&T for their GigaPower (1Gbps!) offer and this time I was sitting with the sales rep when he was setting up my service. His tablet reported a problem retrieving my credit report and referred him to an analyst for approval. Prior to that, we saw no indication that AT&T would even run my credit. Well, long story short, we were at my home, so I walked into my office and unblocked my credit report and voila everything was fine.

So the lesson here is, if you use a credit agency or other service to secure your credit file, you will have to unblock it while applying for AT&T service. If only the first customer service representative had just told me that, we all could have saved a lot of time and energy.

I am currently going through a lengthy process to try and get my money back.  At&t never told me about a $449 fee, the agent on the phone told me the installation fee was $49 dollars.  My bill showed up online 5 days later as $609.  I cancelled my service immediately, returned all their equipment via UPS and got confirmation on the phone that i would not be charged anything.  But four days ago, At&t debited $609 from my bank account and when I tried to get someone to explain why I am being charged $609 for 5 days of service, i was bounced around from department to department, each giving me a different story.  I have now contacted a lawyer and filed a fraud claim through my bank.  AT&T U verse is conducting itself like a criminal organization, lying to people when they initially get service, and then they pretend they don't know what is going on.  This has been one of the most frustrating encounters I have ever had with a company.  I wish I never heard of AT&T.

Good luck. ATT Doesn't give a rats butt about you.

They just take your money and provide (if you're lucky) some subpar overpriced service.

My neighbor told me about ATT TV and Internet package he got, so I thought I would check it out.  To both of our surprises, ATT wants to charge me for a Credit Management Fee of  $449.  I talked to Andrea online and she had me call ATT and ask for a specialist.  I call and they didn't know what I was talking about.  They finally sent me to billing.  They couldn't tell me what the $449 was for only that It was based on my credit and if I kept the equipment.  I have a very high credit score and I have NEVER had any "equipment" from att., My credit is better than my neighbors and he wasn't charged this amount.  this lasted an hour and a half and No one at ATT could tell me why I was being asked to pay an extra $449. From all these posts....this seems to be a problem that continues to happen.
