Am I out of luck when it comes to getting Uverse?
I tried signing up for Uverse a few weeks back and after the technician came out to do the install I was told that I could not get Uverse service at my address. The reason given to me was that I was too far from my city's server or center (something like that) to get the service.
I am 7500 feet, give or take, from the VRAD in my neighborhood. My original understanding is that 7500 feet was too far, is that still the case? And if that's not too far what are the chances that the software or something improves so that my distances from the server is no longer an option? As I'm in an older home, I'm sure that I'm currently FTTN if that makes a difference.

7500ft is really far if that's true. I've been hearing people getting installed with 6k+ feet I believe, but that's only with new line cards and good line conditions. You may be able to push really far distances in the future with some of the new technology coming out.

That's what I thought, which is why I found it weird that the lack of service was blamed on being too far from another center in my city. The technician on site didn't seem to think the distance to the VRAD was an issue either. At this point I'm just curious what prospects there are that my distance from the server, or whatever they're referring to (definitely not the VRAD because I did get that clarified at least), will cease to be an issue at any point or if I'm just going to have to live with it long term.

7500' is too far for VDSL2. 7500' is well within range for ADSL2+, which is available in some areas and called U-verse, but does not offer TV and is lower bandwidth at that range.
