Autopay was never charged and now my account is past due

I have AutoPay set up for my U-verse service - when I login to my account it shows that Autopay is enabled and my most recent bill said:

"AutoPay will Debit Your Credit Card by Sep 10, 2016"

However AT&T never actually charged my card and now my account is past due. When I try to pay my bill manually I get this error:

"Unable to process payment

For your protection, we can’t accept more than one payment of the same amount on the same credit or debit card within 24 hours."

Why did AT&T fail to charge my card, and why is AT&T unwilling to take my money now that I'm trying to manually pay my bill? The error message seems to imply that I can't pay my bill because it has already been paid, but if that's the case then why does my account show that it's past due? Will these errors by AT&T have a negative impact on my credit report?

Thanks for your help!

@JakeEss   Would guess you saw the announcement about changing credit card autopays and that might have something to do w/this.  Did you check your CC online for the transaction waiting to clear?  Know on my Chase CC have a little box to open.

Mine went to my CC Sept 6th, but next one will go on 9/22, 8 days after the end of the billing period.

Contact ATT Customer Care on the link in my signature below, by Need Help?

Send them a Private Message, on this link, and they should be able to give the help needed to solve your CC not autopaid problems. Many times these are answered by FB/Twitter Soc Media Managers, available late nites, weekends.

Include your name, account #, email address and a good phone # (land or cell) and time to contact you on.

Check the blue PM envelope, upper right on every page, for their reply, possibly by email instead. They can do more than any phone rep and stick w/it till it's done. Good luck 😉

I have not seen this announcement - I tried searching for it but wasn't able to find anything. Do you have a link to it?

Yes - AutoPay is set up with my Chase card and Chase shows that there are currently no pending charges on that card.

I'll give this a shot - thanks!

@JakeEss   Here's copy/paste of it (I got 3 different email notices and initially a letter of it):

We recently made a change to AutoPay with credit card service. Currently, your credit card is charged on your monthly due date. Starting in September, your credit card will be charged eight days after your Bill Cycle date. Your Bill Cycle date can be found when you access the Billing and Usage page click here. Go to the Bill tab. The Bill Cycle date is the end date displayed in the Current Bill date range.

If you prefer to continue to be charged on your current payment due date, have your automatic payment taken directly from your checking/savings account or by using your bank debit card. To make AutoPay changes*, click here and log in to your account, or call us at 844.822.3351 and say, Automatic Payment.

For more information, click here.

Thank you for choosing us,

AT&T

Think ATT was not quickly getting their money on CC.  My Aug pmt was Fri 8/5 the due date, so it was at Chase for 2 days no action.  Then was still in pending til the 9th, charged to the Chase account.  They were not getting their money on the due date. Smiley Frustrated
