Bait and switch games

(We are new ATT UVerse and Internet customers as of 4/30/2014. Our subdivision just became available for ATT UVerse and was heavily canvased by representatives to sign people up for the service.  A nice young man named Marcel came to my door and we began our discussion with who we had for cable and what package we used and who our internet provider was and how much do we pay?  I told him we had Direct TV for our cable and Comcast for internet our monthly bill was $190.00 for both. He said he could save us money PLUS give us gift cards for switching. Obviously I asked how much would the gift cards be because of the early termination fee with DirectTV I didn't want to switch to ATT but Marcell showed me on his paperwork what we were quailified for to get the $300.00 in gift cards and that would cover the early termination fee for DirectTV.  I asked that question several times to make sure I understood it thoroughly and completely that we would receive $300.00 in gift cards ($150.00,$50.00,$100.00) and each time he looked me in the eye and said "yes". So I agreed to switch.

We received the $150.00 gift card today 6/11/2014 but no other's have materialized. I called ATT 1 -800-288-2020 and spoke with "Christine". I explained the situation several times and she said "I can definitely help you with that" and she proceeded to restate everything I said again and again. I had to
explain the situation many times over to get her to understand then she finally asked me to hold which I did. She said she spoke with the Rewards section and approved a $50.00 gift card for me.I told her that was not good enough. Then she said  they would "take care of our DirectTV early termination fee",  her exact words. She asked for my phone number to send me "alerts" regarding my gift cards, which I still have not received.

She asked again for my phone number to speak to me about my phone bill. I said yes. She said we went over our data allotment last month and I told her I don't want to add anymore data. Christine said she notated my account about our conversation and she transferred me to "Levette" in Rewards.

After explaining things yet again to Levette she said there were no notes in my record about any conversations with Christine or addtional gift cards other than the one $50.00 that was approved.

I will be contacting BBB and FCC regarding ATT's bait and switch games. Even if it costs more I will be switching phone, cable and internet as soon as contracts are up. It's not worth the aggrevation to deal with crappy customer service and a lying cheating company.

Hello DonnaGM63, thank you for posting!

I apologize for the issue you're having with your reward cards. Some rewards need to be redeemed online, I recommend logging into THIS site to see if any other rewards are still pending. The number you called was for U-Verse Customer Care, but there is a better number to call about rewards, it's our Reward Center @ 1-800-288-9983, they might have more information about your rewards there.

Thank you,

Dmitriy

This just happened to me as well. ATT sales rep promised me $300 in gift cards and an $80 cable/internet bill, but after receiving my first bill of $604, and no notice of any gift cards, I called to resolve. The long and short was there were never really any gift cards to begin with. The company used the high bill as leverage to turn the promised "gift card" amount into a credit to bring down my enormously high bill. Even then they did not give me the full $300 credit, but only $200 stating the sales rep never had any authority to promise me $300 in gift cards. Definitely reporting this bait and switch to the proper agencies, and will be posting my experience everywhere I can to get the word out.
