Bait and Switch

I went to renegotiate a bundle with Uverse, phone and internet since my current plan was expiring.  I have been a customer for two years now and wanted to continue using the service. After a long time talking about different options, I was given my monthly total and told that my plan would remain the same and that internet would be bumped.  I specifically asked if everything remained the same and was told yes.  I turned on the the TV and found that HBO had been dropped.  I called back and was told there was nothing they could do.  It is not right that a company offers services to a customer and then those services are not delivered.

I will be looking elsewhere for services next time.  Lesson learned - buyer beware!

That has not been the case for me - I had the U300 plan with phone and internet and HBO was included.

HBO is not included in U300. Neither is Cinemax or Epix.

You might have been getting it (HBO) free for the last two years but HBO is not included in U300.

I guess everyone is missing the point - what I was told and what I received are two different things.  I specifically asked if the new plan would remain the same as the plan I currently had and was told that it would.  My plan - U300 included HBO - so I assumed the given price included HBO as well.

The business practice of telling a person that an addon is included their monthly fee and then to find out that it is in fact not included and will now cost an additional $16 a month seems like a "bait and switch" tactic to have the consumer pay more for what they had already been promised.

HBO (w/ Cinemax) can be ordered separately along with U300, and you can get it free for 90 days (some people somehow do so repeatedly), but it's not included in U300.  By the time you add the $10 HD tech fee and the cost of the HBO/MAX tier, you might as well upgrade to U450 and get the other channels, too.

It could have been a technical glitch.  You acknowledge that you had U300.  U300 does NOT include HBO (I don't care how many times you say yours did... it did not).  If you had HBO turned on, it was a mistake [or magic].  As such, the person who was on the phone with you cannot be blamed for it going away [by magic or otherwise].

You got HBO for free for a long time.  You should be happy.

I never said HBO was free.  I have been paying for it at a reduced rate as that was part of the promotion that I signed up for.    It was bundled with my U300 plan.  So when we went through everything and I asked if my plan would stay the same, I would have expected to be quoted a price that included everything that I currently have - with HBO.  Or if they saw that HBO was dropped from service, they should have mentioned it to me and quoted the additional cost.

So I haven't been as lucky as one might think.

I've had Uverse for over 8 years and active on these boards for that long and I've never heard of anyone getting JUST HBO 'discounted' for 2 years.  HBO/Cinemax free for 90 days maybe but discounted?

In 2007 when Uverse was a new product and we were one of the first to sign up, they gave us HBO/Cinemax for a year...but 2 years?  Never heard of such.

What was the 'discounted' price for HBO?  Maybe I'll ask for that when my current discount expires.

This is the image straight from my billing statement - HBO was included as part of the U300 plan promotional package.  If this bundled discount was being removed, I should have been told. Pricing will vary from region to region, but just to let you know that they do offer this type of discount.
