Building a home and Uverse is 352 feet away from me...

Howdy,

I've read some of the posts here about having next-door neighbors or just across the streets having Uverse yet the online portal shows they cannot get uverse.  I understand there are scenarios why, such as something about lack of openings/cards (I think), and sometimes simply a database error.

Urban sprawl has started to reach where I am building.  I have met some of my neighbors  across the street and they tell me they have had Uverse for a while.  The closest address to mine with it is 352 feet.

I had them research the address, only to be told it is not available at my address... seemed like a quick and generic response to me...

While i have a physical address, I do not have ANY services there yet, obviously.  They started framing this week.

If my address does come up in the ATT database, but only offers me dsl/directv, how can i get my address checked for Uverse SOONER rather than LATER - ie moving into the house to establish ATT service... if I can have uverse day 1 i want to make sure i've done everything i can do to make that happen.

Thoughts?

Contact ATT Customer Care here:

Send them a private message, on this link, and they should be able to give the help needed to solve your address verification problems. They are available M-F 8am-11pm Eastern time (also around on weekends), response may take up to 2 business days.

This is not the regular CS/TS people, but the social media Community Specialists that know the people to contact to get things done.

Include your account#, email address and a good phone # (land or cell) and time to contact you on.

Check the blue PM envelope, upper right on every page, for their reply. Good luck 😉

Uverse largely uses the USPS database along with internal wiring plans.

Is your build address able to receive mail, or other services?

New build recommend two coax lines and two data (cat5e or cat6) lines to every room, larger rooms may need two outlets per room to give flexibility in placement.

Uverse currently does offer the option of two wireless receivers to help offset ackward placements with possible future upgrade to allow four wireless receivers.

Your gateway/router should be as near to center if home as possible if best WiFi coverage regardless of who provides service.

Walking distance does not mean wiring distance, if VRAD is not on your block, could go up a street crossover and back down the next street, 500 feet line sight could be 4500 feet wiring.

My thoughts - thank you for the detailed answer.  We do already have a USPS address, just not the mailbox.  I live on a court that has had mail/services for a few years already.  Our build will be Cat5/6 and I have several outlets already on the plans, and I am sure I will be adding more as we progress through the build, as I want it done correctly now, rather than later (and in hindsight) 🙂

You are correct - walking distance and LOS are different things - I was under the impression I had to be within 3000 ft of an existing install but now understand that is dependent on the VRAD location.  Will try to determine that today.
