Changing WIFI to a range extender on one TV

We have a Rang Extender for our downstairs.  The TV we have downstairs it's WIFI is connected to the router upstairs.  There are connection issues, TV picture is pausing and breaking up.  We want to change the WIFI connection on the TV to the Range Extender.  How do we do that?

Are you asking about a so called "smart" tv with its own wifi or using the tv connected to a wireless uverse receiver?  For the wifi connection you can install a range extender to extend the gateway's wifi range.  Read the extender's instructions.  However for the att wireless receivers, which communicate to a WAP (wireless access point - the little box ethernet connected to the gateway) you cannot use a range extender.  You need to find a better position for the WAP.  Use a longer ethernet cable to it to give you more freedom to move it around to get a better signal.  The signal strength that the wireless receiver sees is shown in the number of bars on the front of the wireless receiver (3 is marginal, 4-5 best).
