Collections for services not rendered...FICA score drops!!!
I have had AT&T for over a decade, in multiple homes with zero billing/payment issues. We bought a new home three years ago, 6 blocks away from our old home, and were able to keep our 2 phone lines and fax line.
When service came to install the lines, they installed my fax line throughout the house with no phone lines. My husband and I called ~8 times EACH being transfered to Texas and being placed on hold for over an hour over and over again. Four days in to no phone line, we called Cox to come in and set up service. We have not had a problem.
I then began receiving a bill for ~$32.00 for services NOT RENDERED. I spoke to collections MULTIPLE times when they called. They said there was never a "documented" complaint made so I am unable to dispute the charge. Of course not! We were transfered OVER and OVER and OVER again and placed on hold for days!!!
I never paid the bill.
Last year we went to re-fi our home and discovered AT&T sent the collection to credit score companies and dropped my FICA by 100 points to 650! Can you believe this is happening to us??? I then paid the bill for services NOT RENDERED and received a letter from the collection agency stating the balance is paid.
Guess what? My score is the same! The collection agency/AT&T must write to the credit score companiesand retract the entire collection as though it never existed. I feel completely victimized.
Can anyone help us??? We need this removed from my credit score so we can re-fi our home. We have already lost two low rates because of this. Please help!

That is alot of points for one $32.00 collection. Get all 3 of your credit reports to see if the CA is on all of them Then call their dipute number on the last page of the reports. Only the credit bureaus can do anything about it now. They bring your dispute to the collection agency and they have like 30 days to respond if not the report will come off. And since its only $32.00 and you have always disputed it I think your chances are pretty good.

Since the account was with the collection agency, I would recommend contacting them to find out if they've reported the collection as paid.
I'm not sure why you think they should retract it as if it never existed, or why you feel victimized.

Here I am ONE MONTH after being asked to contact customer service directly (see previous post). I have reached out MULTIPLE times and keep getting "I am sorry.......and an excuse".
This service is just as bad as the service I wrote about a month ago!!! Don't be fooled when you read these posts thinking AT&T is assisting these people!
I think I should go to the BBB and complain about the hit to my credit score and the financial consequences that have resulted (re-fi).

Have you contacted the credit reporting agency in question?
Honestly, you admit you didn't pay the bill until you noticed your credit report. I'm not sure what exactly you're expecting to change, but I think the credit bureaus are the way to go at this point.
