comcast or Uverse?

I'm currently a very dissatisfied Comcast customer and have been thinking about switching to Uverse. My number one concern is customer service- is Uverse/ATT customer service helpful? Secondly, how is the internet speed and cable tv? Lastly, what is the monthly data cap with Uverse?

@KCardona - Odds favor good service, anything can happen on each case.

No reason not to get full internet speed in your package.

No monthly data cap when you have TV.

If your channels are there everything is great, but different. YOu need to know your household can receive only four channels at the same time because that is the design of three transport.

If that is not a problem then it would be good for you to try.

Data cap seems to depend upon which plan you pick, but, tread carefully because some unlimited data plans then slow speed after a very low amount.

Look around on these forums and I think you'll get an idea of how customer service is.  Think you'll be "jumping from the frying pan into the fire" to coin a phrase from my mom. Would not recommend att under any circumstances unless you have no other options.

If it were me, I'd stick with comcast.  Comcast gets my vote.

@KCardona, the U-verse High Speed Internet Data "Cap" is 300 GB/month for up 6 Mbps bandwidth, 600 GB for other non-Gigapower users, and 1 TB for gigabit users.  Once you reach the cap, you are charged for each additional 50 GB you use that month.  It is not throttled at any point.  [U-verse subscribers can get an "unlimited data" mobile plan, which is throttled once you get to 23 GB per month, but that's mobile and has nothing to do with this.]

You can also pay $30 extra a month for unlimited usage, i.e. no cap.

If you have U-verse TV or a linked DIRECTV account, then the $30/month fee for unlimited usage is waived, i.e. no fee for no cap and no cap.

See https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/u-verse-high-speed-internet/KM1010099 for some more cap information.

I am happy with the U-verse TV service.  You should realize that you're limited to 4 live streams (basically channels) coming in to your home at one time, and that each TV must have its own receiver.  These are basics of U-verse TV that surprise some new customers.

Att does throttle data.  But I think comcast does too.  Kind of think you are trying to pick the lesser of two evils here.  Stll think I'd stick with comcast.  I have years of att horror stories....

Att does not throttle data and is much better than Comcast.

Phone support can be poor. Best to try phone support during regular business hours Monday-Friday. Best support method is using the private message here or Twitter. Takes a few days. I've been happy with tv and Internet. I considered switching to TWC but didn't like the user interface or the remote control. Speed is distance based. You could get as low as 3mb available or possibly 24. With att uverse you have to have an STB for each tv to work. You have to use the att provided rg. But you can use your own router behind it. Best to check and see what is available at your home before you consider switching.

@JefferMC do a quick internet search "Jeffey" that att throttles data is pretty common knowledge, they have even been caught doing this in the past and have been fined by the fcc because of it.  They even admit that they do it!

You are a fool to change to UVERSE.  My internet goes down about 6-8 times a month and needs to be reset.  I keep AT&T troublesooter program on an old computer in the TV room just to get my signal back.  If you are recording when it goes down, that show will not record and you lost it.  With their program, even my 6 year old can get the TV/Internet working again.  Do not call them unless you have at least 15 min of hold time before you get to talk to someone.  That person will fix your issue, but you have to wait the 15 min before you get to talk to anyone.  That is acceptable to AT&T.  As soon as I find another provider in my area that carries the PAC12 Channel, I will be changing my household over to them.  Until then, Happy Interupted service from AT&T.  The company that's too big to care.

AT&T was fined for not disclosing (although they had) that they throttled WIRELESS data under certain situations.  Please, cite a credible source or provide evidence of them throttling wired Internet (such as U-verse).  I'm waiting....

Your situation is relatively rare.  You are not alone in having issues, but there are also literally millions of satisfied users who do not share your experience.  I recommend sending a Private Message to ATTU-verseCare and seeing if they can get to the bottom of your issues.  I personally avoid the phone support.

Isn't the Directv unlimited data plan a wired plan?

But anyway @KCardona I think you can see how atts customer service is and how bad the trolling is on the forums.  I don't think that att is the place you want to be.  Like I said, I have years of att horror stories.  I have heard that comcast is bad, but I would jump to them in a heartbeat if the opportunity arose.

@Coaster7 your situation is not relatively rare.  Look on these forums.  I have had nothing but issues like yours with att.  I can add a whole neighborhood with stories like yours.  I live in a relatively small town, we all know each other and have yet to meet someone happy with att.  My brother lives in a big city and all his subdivision say the same.  Someone says "att is a nightmare" and only on this forum do you get the "aces" who do not agree.

I agree with you totally!

And I have had years of nearly flawless service. Your anecdote, while quite unfortunate for you, is statistically meaningless to a company with millions of customers. The people who come to sites like this, and dsl reports, are overwhelmingly those with problems, but even all the posts here are relatively insignificant given the volume of services at&t provides. The best a potential customer can do is ask friends and neighbors about their experience in that specific local geography. And even that won't necessarily mirror anyone's potential experience in their own home.
