Early Termination from U-verse pkg
I have til 10/2018 before my contract is up, but my internet is horrible and when I record on DVR I noticed the programs are choppy, voices are off, etc...we're at our wits end with AT&T and want to say good-bye for good, we are senior citizens and even our bill ended up being 30 dollars more than we were initially told!!! We're on a fixed income, so every penny matters....so what would our early termination be?

Check with you cable provider. Some are offering to pay the early termination fee. The cable in my area is Charter and they are offering to pay your early termination fee to switch.

I have a 12 month package with a 2 year price free. When my 12 months are up (soon) is there a penalty for not taking the 2nd year?

Exactly the same problem...tv freezes every time we watch it, voice comes back while screen still frozen, have to restart receiver all the time, bills always higher than quoted. Cannot stand this service, worst mistake we ever made! Internet & phones with them too, I’ve been in the store so many times & everyone tells me something different BUT ALWAYS STAYS AWFUL !!! I feel totally conned & hopelessly trapped in crap service paying through the nose, I think it’s criminal

I wholeheartedly agree. The devices that were installed in my home are not compatible. The bit rate of the internet is not sufficient to rewind, record or even sync the audio with the video on the TV, making everything appear to be dubbed into English!! I was told repeatedly when I called for Direct TV technical support or AT&T support that I had a DSL installed, "So, you should be ok." Only on the day I cancelled after a little over 2 months of sub-standard service was I told that DSL is not even available in my area and AT&T had installed a router to which a cell phone number had been assigned. That cell number communicates with a satellite which sends data back to the router at the slowest bit rate available to consumers! No wonder I kept getting prompts on my screen:
"Your current Internet connection speed does not allow for a smooth play back of this streaming program. Press OK or optimize network". Thus far, I am unable to get the $210 early termination fee removed from my bill. With 2 cell phones, TV and internet bundled, in the first two months, I paid AT&T over $1000.00 !! I can not get HOURS of my life back that I've spent on the phone being switched from one department to another only to be told they cannot see my charges, cannot see my bill, are only authorized to deal with one aspect of service or another. AT&T has an absolutely horrible business model.

OMG! I can't believe it but after more than 16 collective hours on the phone and countless departments transfers and call-backs, I finally got an early termination fee credited to my account by the "Loyalty Department." I had a letter composed and waiting to go off to the Better Business Bureau. That would have cost AT&T/Direct TV much more than $210.00 I'm sure. There are only two reasons to have an ETF credit, I was told: 1. The Direct TV service is not available in your area or 2. You are moving and will transfer Direct TV to your new location. This has been by far the most frustrating and time consuming bureaucratic conundrum I've ever experienced in my lifetime -- and I'm 70! It feels as though a meteorite struck and spared me from being thrown into the volcano... If I'd had the foresight, I'd have avoided AT&T and DirectTV completely. When my cell-phone contract is up, I'll be switching that too.
The fact that the wireless internet router installed (only thing offered in my zip code) and the DirectTV were not compatible and the TV never performed properly (choppy, audio and video not synced, can't rewind because bit rate too slow) seemingly had nothing to do with it.
Best luck with your AT&T account.

Hello I switched to att u-verse. A door to door sales man fast talked me into signing a contract. What I signed said I would pay 134 a month around 145 All In. It said no equipment fee with four receivers. I was also told that the fiber optic lines would be much faster than Comcast cable. Which was up 150 megabytes per second and running a steady hundred most all times. Now it runs around 50 megabytes a second never above 70. My point is I was told one thing and given one price and pay something different. IPay 193 a month 4 channel's that jumps all over the place from 1 to 3000. Meaning is kind of hard to figure out the channels. The internet gets the job done but ain't what I was quoted. And the price is $50 more what I planned to pay. I switch from Comcast because they told me that it would be cheaper and better. I couldn't find the contract that I signed for a while but I have it now. I hope now they can fix my bill and refund me all the money that I paid extra for the past few months.

To add to this. I said the internet gets the job done. Really it's okay but when two or more people are streaming. YouTube and someone is watching Netflix it glitches and the computer runs slow on my boys fortnite game. This is a Dale alien gaming computer that should run the game flawlessly. I know that sounds like a lot of people on the internet at the same time. Comcast cable would run all that just fine with no glitches at all. When I signed up I told them how many people was normally on the internet. The answer I got was that fiber optics was way faster than Comcast cable and it could handle all that just fine.

I had switched to Uverese and internet because it was cheaper and was told much better than Spectrum, I was lied to! We would be watching a show (only TV using the internet and uverse) and the picture would freeze or jump around. So, we went back to Spectrum and we are very happy! So, when we called in to cancel the uverse, we were informed that we could not cancel in the middle of a billing cycle and have our bill prorated, we could cancel of course and pay a 40$ fee, but still have to pay a full billing cycle. Since when are customers expected to pay for something they are not using??? Oh, I forgot, we are talking about att and uverse!
I was so shocked at this blatant change in policy without my written acknowledgement. So, does this mean I can change the contract with them as long as I say that I sent them a letter? I was told that I could write them with my complaint, but managers are never there to take a call! If I ran my business like that, I would not have very many customers or be able to sleep at night. SMH
In addition to the change in policy, they also raised my monthly bill by 30$ !!!!! I will never use an att or uverse or even direct tv ever again!

The DVR service is a joke, movies freeze all the time and other are very choppy. There techs have been out several times and even replaced the device and no change. As for the High speed Uverse... I kid you not, but you would think that we were on dial up because the speeds are soooo slow. ATT techs have been out many times and claim that we have the fastest fiber speed, but because it is a shared service with the rest of the community those speeds slow down greatly. Waiting for a page to populate is not good.
Finally, we had Uverse and paid about $176 per month, we wanted to save money so we called the ATT Rep and they advised us to goto Direct TV. This was a big mistake!!!! Poor service especally when it rained or there is heavy winds. We were only on their basic package so we lost all access to shows, but we actually payed about $200 which never came down. So we dropped them and went back to Uverse.... Another BIG MISTAKE our cost is now at a Min. $257 sometime $400. We are still fighting to figure out what all these charges are. Comcast just moved in the Neighborhood, so we are moving over to them. We only tried Uverse because it was the only service in the area. Most of our neighbors have already moved over.

There is 2 weeks until the start of football season and UVerse canceled CBS, which carries local football games. We canceled, and ATT told us the ETF is NOT prorated, and we owe them the full amount, although there is only few months left until it would expire. I do not think they are being honest, especially because I called earlier in the week and ATT told me there would be no fee.
Bad experience. Will never consider ATT (UVerse or DirecTv) again.

@vjxxxx - There's always the ETF when cancelling a promo early ($15/month times number of months remaining on contract). And they no longer prorate the partial month so its best to cancel on your billing date.

No, they do not give you $15 per month, they are asking for the full year.
