Less expensive than charter? Where?!

Ok. I am a big fan of AT&T, I've had Cell service with AT&T since the iPhone 3GS was released, and have been trying to get U-Verse since I have heard about it, my brother in law has had it and my parents have been getting mailers and now that I live in an area where I can finally get it, I go to sign up and it's more expensive than Charter Cable. I'm not understanding this at all!!! I am getting HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax, a DVR+box, and 2 additional boxes plus the 60mb internet for $116 after taxes... went looking for the same thing with U-Verse and it came out to close to $140 BEFORE taxes. I don't know if I wanna switch now. I tried to go to a store and the guy told me there'd be a $99 installation charge, I walked out of the store, told him I would sign up online where it was free.

Someone fill me in please?!

You are getting an incredible promotion from Charter! I have the same package (less one box) and pay over $180 after taxes!

This reminds me of when the grocery stores would always say they had the lowest prices and do side-by-side comparisons. What they never told you was those prices were usually with *their* shopper card vs the other guy's "regular" prices.

I wonder if AT&T and Charter and others are playing the same game. Our retention or new customer rates vs their regular rates.

Comcast may have a package which is a regular price of $159.95, but if you call in, they can lower it to $119.95. The similar package with their competitor might be $149.95. See? Lower prices.

To ACE-Professor: I've been paying the same for the same for 6 years at my house till I had services transferred to my current location...

To Employee: you completely comfused the crap outta me 😕 I don't understand why you have to pay extra for HD when a Fiber optical line like UVerse TV is gonna be HD already.

Maybe I need to stick with Charter?

The way AT&T structures their pricing, there in an HD technology fee to watch HD channels.  You can not pay it (unless you opt for U450, in which case it's built in) and you don't watch HD.  Plenty of us do it.  Makes the DVR 3 times as large.

I see advertisements for Charter triple play for $97/month all the time.  Which is great until you start adding in the DVR, set tops for additional TVs and additional programming.  It is actually still cheaper than my non-discounted U-verse bill.  Getting close to enough to make me want to go back to AT&T for some discounts, because maybe Charter has gotten better about outages in the past 5 years; it surely needed to improve.  AT&T has been rock solid in that department.
