Monopoly at it's finest
I moved to a brand new apartment over week ago. AT&T has exclusive rights to provide U-Verse service to the complex. So no choice but to sign up for TV, internet service and scheduled an installation for last weekend.
I get a call from them a day before the installation saying that they cannot perform the installation due to wiring issues outside my apartment and I will be contacted by their technical team to update on when they can perform the work. Did not hear back for a few says, So I call them for an update and I was informed that they will need 48hrs to hear back from Engineering and maybe another 72 hours to fix the issue.
Meanwhile, I get a text on my cellphone from ATT saying I am going to exceed 5GB on my data connection and I will experience reduded data speeds for this billing cycle (I still carry their unlimited data plan), I explained my situation and the reason to a customer service rep and his recommendation was to change my plan to a 4GB limit and I won't have data throttling issue. At this point I gave up and figured I'd rant somewhere.
So no internet or TV with reduced data speed on my cellphone and I don't have an option to choose another provider. I had comcast in my older apt and their 25Mbps plan was cheaper than the 18Mbps AT&T offers and it actually clocked at 30+Mbps. Can't believe that I actually miss Comcast.
Reminds me of south park episodes about cable companies.

While your apartment may have a contract with AT&T, legally it cannot be exclusive per an FCC mandate and Federal Court order. You are free to have any provider that will service your area. If the apartment pushes back, show them this court order.

Actually, you do. In an apartment that has Uverse or Comcast/TWC or any other 'cable' provider for that matter, a resident can have satellite.
My daughter lived in an apt. that provided Comcast and the charge was included in her rent but she could have had Dish or DirectTV had she chosen to do so.
She still would've had to pay for cable because they were, in fact, providing a service but she didn't have to actually use that service. She could've had satellite and paid that too. Insane, I know.
