My father died on Aug 8 2017 At&t continues to bill him even after several calls and finally getting told where to take the equipment.

Call after call I am asked for a PIN # HOW THE H$#L WOULD I KNOW THAT MY DAD IS DEAD!!!

I was told that they talked to a manager and had the account closed and was finally told to take the equiptment to UPS and drop it with the account and a note. DONE>

This month billed for another month of service.

These people are sick very sick will never do business with them ever in my life.

It looks like you could take the following to an ATT store to resolve the problem;

1 Latest bill with the account number on it.

2. Certified death certificate

3.  Any equipment that he owes money on.

Sorry you are having such problems.

Since the equipment has been returned, just make sure to show a copy of the death certificate.  Or you could not pay the bill and let them terminate service.  They will send a final bill but if you don't pay it they can't do much because it was in his name.

I'm sorry for your loss.

I would suggest sending copies of the death certificate and bill to corporate headquarters.  If they send another bill, through it in the trash.

ETA:  You cannot return Uverse equipment to a store front.  It must be returned via UPS.

Well you've done your part.  I'd just shred the bills.

Do not shred anything.  If ATT thinks it's an unpaid account they will send it to collections and I am not sure if collections will eventually go after you.  Do what skeeter says but I would add that when you send the death certificate and bill to corporate headquarters you mail it with a return receipt request (and maybe even also certified).

Well I had something similar happen with my grandmother.  They threatened collections, and I told them to serve the papers to the proper cemetery.  They couldn't come after me because t wasn't in my name.  Needless to say they hit the road.  Even if it got to court, just show the judge the death certificate and tell how they refused to stop billing.  It will get tossed mighty quick.

Which was exactly behind my thinking of having even more documented proof you did everything possible to resolve the issue.  It could only strengthen your case if it went to court.

Unless your name is on the bill or you are executor of the estate, you are not responsible.  Read more here
