package change

I called to have HBO deleted from my package.  The AT&T Rep. said no problem and that she could also reduce my monthly bill.  Great!  But today I received via UPS a self-installation guide for a digital phone.  I called AT&T again and was told that the previous AT&T Rep. sold me a second phone number.  We never talked about a phone, just my package plan and deleting HBO.  Doesn't this sound like what Wells Fargo got caught doing?
