Question on Taxes

I contacted billing yesterday about a question on taxes and they said I would have to contact the taxing agency.  This would lead me to a dead end, and in any case, someone at ATT, a programmer, has to be the one to change the calculation on my bill if the city or state changes my rate.  That is the person I want to talk to for an explanation.

Thanks

The taxes are regulated to ATT by the local/state government. You should speak with someone in the government or taxation body in regards to taxes.

When my taxes change on my bill, someone at ATT programs this based on
instructions from the taxing agency. Who is that person?

The taxing agency does not create my bill, ATT does.

No the government does not make your bill, right. But there isn't a person who physically sets it. There is a system where it constantly checks the updated tax database from the government. When the gov't tax rate goes up, ATT autmatically applies this, not a person. For every county this would take forever. So it just auto updates the bill to reflect what the gov't wants ATT to aply to your bill

OK, so I don't go on a wild goose chase, can you direct me to appropriate
person for the Texas state cost recovery fee charges which increased on my
last bill.

Thanks

No idea, you'd have to conact someone in the Texas state Gov and I'm sure they could refer you?

As a fellow Texan, I will put in my 2 cents.

There are local & state taxes applied to your Uverse bill.  Here are examples I pulled from my bill:

State Cost-Recovery Fee (x3-TV/Internet/Phone)
Local Video Facilities Fee
Local Video Service Franchise Fee

Local Sales Tax
State Sales Tax
Local 911 Fee
Municipal Right of Way Fee
State 911 Equalization Fee

I would suggest you study your bill and then call your city or town and inquire about those tax rates and then call the Public Utility Commission of Texas and see if they can offer any insight.

FYI:  My State Cost Recovery Fee on TV was 28¢, on internet was 04¢ and on Uvoice it was 12¢ for a total of 44¢.   Was yours some exorbitant amount?
