Taking advantage of the elderly with uverse set up

An ATT representative came by my 93 year old Dad's home.  He is hard of hearing and told them not to hook up uverse.  They did it anyway probably because he could not hear what they were saying.  He does not have a computer or cell phone.  Has nothing that he needs the internet for.   He only gets $800 a month social security and now he has a phone bill that is $99 a month! It used to be around $50.  I have tried multiple calls to get this uverse service cancelled and just get the phone service and have gotten no where.  This is just terrible that ATT take advantage of a 93 year old man who is near deaf just so they could install service and make their money.  Now 20% of his monthly income goes toward paying for something he does not need.  He cannot afford this.  Is there someone we can call to get this cancelled and restore his previous just phone service!!!????

My Mother has been taken advantage of not once but twice. She lives in Vicksbnuu MS and the cable choices are slim. She lives on Social Security and doesn't get out much. She depends on daily. The first instance I realize they took advantage of her was when she was in a step down unit due to an illness. She was there several months so I had her phone and cable cut off temporarily. When I went to have them turned back on they tried to bundle internet with her bill and I said no she doesn't even own a computer. I pay her bills online for her and realized when the price they quoted me was about what I had been paying, I asked, "has she been paying for internet all these years"', They said she had paid for it for four years!!! I was furious, but ATT would do nothing. So, second punch comes 2 days ago. My Mom moved into a small apartment and something went wrong with ATT equipment and they come out to replace it. They have her sign a document and she asked them if it was going to cost anything and he said NO. She gets her bill in the mail and her bill is almost $300!! There is a charge on there for $149 plus taxes and fees. I call and they tell me they made a house call and since she signed the document that they can't take the charge off. I have spent 2 days approximately 4 hours on the phone. Had to call back several times because by the time I reached a supervisor, I would mysteriously get disconnected and then have to start back over again. This company takes advantage of elderly and people that don't understand. My Mother suffers from dementia. I am going to repot to the FCC or some agency that will stand up for her rights. We are all going to be old if we live long enough. Are we going to just stand by and let these corporate bullies take advantage of our parents? I figured my Mother spent approximately $2500 in internet charges. Att you should be ashamed!!!

You may also want to contact AARP.  AARP prints a regular periodical with a regular column in which they investigate cases such as these for financial elder abuse.  Also  your mother's local news station and/or newspaper may have investigative reporters that usually will investigate situations such as this. There was a story on the Internet today which a newspaper had done an investigative report on someone's direct tv bill. Positive results with direct tv zeroed out the balance.
